"ICE" for sale... can this possibly be real?

eBay auction

EDITED TO SAY: A friend of mine just informed me that the Dallas Stars were in fact selling these through their web site, so they are likely legit... still seems weird though.

EDITED AGAIN TO CORRECT SPELLING. image

Somehow, I find that kinda cool. Neat looking pieces to say the least. $10 only... I might have to buy me one of those! image
  • Can you refreeze the water?

Depends if you remember the recipe
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

These could be counterfeit though... how would you know he didnt' already drain the water out and replace it with water from his kitchen sink only to keep the real rink water to make the whole rink in his backyard...Then you could skate on the actual rink and sell tickets...he'd make a fortune. image

To be sure, you'd have to send the water to PSA/DNA and have Jim Spence authenticate it!

Good thinking Con... do you think they could do the quick opinion service before you bid on it though?

If it suits you, then great. Apparently they were originally selling for $40 apiece. Even this vendor's last eBay batch was on for $15 each, so the time may be right.

Personally, I find the whole concept a little cheesy, encasing water in a lucite slab.

I think the design is kinda cool. I was kidding about actually purchasing one though. I hope they don't start issuing game used Ice(water) cards...the way UD cards come out all crumpled we'd have one break open and leave a pulpy mess in the pack... LOL
  • I have an extensive collection of these on display in my living room. I have to keep the room at 32 degrees which costs me a fortune during the summer, but it's got to be on anyhow for my titanic iceberg collection.

I have one of those issued by the Colorado Avalanche after their 1995 Stanley Cup win. It's a clear plastic puck mounted on a wooden base. It's filled with water from McNichols Arena during the 1995 Finals against Florida. It has a hologram on it from the team I believe, along with a certificate giving the issue numbers and all. It's really pretty coolimage
