A Wagner sells for only $4,150? You've got to be kidding me

Okay - probably because it was not a Honus. I forget what the Kaline went for a few years ago - but this price seems to be quite aggressive. I think the Mantle Dice Game that Rosen had a few years ago (complete with pinhole) got no movement at a $5,000- opening bid.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

read a month or so back where Daddy Wags died this year; he'd been homeless and living out of a closet in downtown LA. Sad.

Sad, but self-inflicted. He also refused to accept any help.

Rosen had a $10000 on the Mantle. I think it is now in a PSA 1 holder

Actually, the Mantle Dice Game card went for over $20,000 (including the buyer's commission). Mr. Rosen told me that the winning bidder was a big Mantle collector from Florida, and he had a top-all bid of $24,000 (before commission). I don't know if that was the same card as the PSA 1. I am sure about the sales figures for this card because I was the underbidder (at $18,000 before commission).

Bob - that is very useful information - thanks for the update. Do you know how many Dice Game Mantles exist? Two? Three? I think I've heard of two - but only personally recall the one Rosen had in his auction.

I'm not too sure how many exist. At the time that the Rosen Mantle appeared (along with Kubek and Richardson, also with pinholes), I meant to look carefully at the borders and centering to see if it was the same card that is shown in the Standard Catalog. I never got around to doing that.

Since there are two Kalines in the Pop Report, I would have to assume that there are at least two of each. I have never seen more than one of any of the others. The Mays PSA 6 and the Musial and Kaline PSA 7s have all changed hands in the last three years. Hope we see more movement!
  • Hi
the kubek and richardson cards from mr mints auction did not have pinholes
the mantle did and yes all 3 cards now reside here in florida
  • heres a better picture i hope

I was high bid and purchased it.
.........not sure about it being a huge win image
    $$-wise anyhow
...............but I had been hunting for one of those for quite a while.

    edited to add:
thankfully....... the Dice Game cards don't appeal to me much.
19th century stuff for me lately, which doesn't come easy or cheap either

Dang you, Murcer. I think I was the underbidder - and I think we were probably driving the price up on that one throughout the process. Seemed like every time I got outbid, I went back and bid again, until the moment I just figured I had had enough. Great pickup. I think that card might have formerly been in a PSA 5 holder? Good on ya, mate
