Experiment with Ebay Seller "Coinmovers"--

I purchased one of this guys coins, a 1958 PR68 Deep Cam Washington( as it was listed) just to see what it is he is selling. Luckily, I only had to spend $15.00. The coin is in a PCI slab and it might be a PR68, but it surely is no DCAM coin. Its not even a CAM. Should I contact PCI and let them know what is going on?? It appears the slab has been split at the bottom to open it and possibly another coin put in it.

I don't even think PCI would deliberately slab a regular Proof coin and label it DCAM. Any suggestions on how to go forward with this? I think it is time someone shut this guy down.

If you're trying to prove something, you might want to wait until the coin comes in before you try to "shut this guy down". jmo

Think again. I've seen dozens and dozens of examples, and have bought quite a few. They do it all the time.

Do you have the coin in hand or are you going by the picture in the listing?

Please post a picture of the tampered slab. That is just plain criminal.imageimage

I too, "tried an experiment" with them. Actually, it was a gamble, right? I won 2, 1971 Roosevelts, PR69DC, in their PCI holders.
I need one, badly, for my registry set. Well, they arrived. No doubt, they might cross at 68/69, but neither one is even close to DC.
One of them, on a good day? might, just might, make CAM...
I'm not gonna throw away more money tho, trying to cross that one.
Good news...? I paid less than $9 each. Not a bad shot in the dark, and I now know better. One of my cheaper lessons, in the hobby.image
  • I will surely post a pic of this coin tomorrow for everyone.

Russ, if you are still reading this thread, how many examples do you have like this? The reason I said I don't believe PCI would do it deliberatley is that I only have 2 PCI slabs. I recently traded my 91-S DCAM 70 Eagle for a PCGS Merc at a coin show. Anyhow, I have a 1983-S PR69 CAM lincoln that I won on Ebay for $2.25 and appears graded accurately and is CAM, and now this 1958 Washington, which is no where near even CAM. And the slit in the bottom of the slab makes ya wonder what is going on.

From my view at this point, I cannot put it on PCI, but of course, many of you have been doing this a long time and have seen more than I have.
  • does coinmovers have a vested interested in PCI ?
    Perhaps !
i would never buy another item from them.
would you like to see my PCI 1957 Lincoln Cent Proof 67 Deep Cameo ?
    Oh,its prolly a 67 or 68,Cameo ? Not in my lifetime !
    steer clear !

Gee I wonder if the hagars are involved in any of this. Ooops am I gonna get sued now? ( Actually it's EBAY who should be sued and investigated for allowing criminal acts to go on and on and on) ( in my opinion)

Bring it on. I'm in Florida too. Come and get some.

Just thinking out loud- I would guess that it would take more than one possibly tampered with slab to put the fear of Allah into such a prolific seller as Coinmovahs. From my little slice of experience looking at pci cam/dcam/ucam coins, I got the impression that their ucam probably fits a pcgs cam profile- but I began seeing a LOT of pci slabbed stuff in the last 6 months that all looks like yesterdays' garbage. Maybe the coin you purchased is one of those? Maybe pci's grading standards took an even farther dive recently???

  • Nothing in a PCI slab (recently) that says CAM or DCAM,will make even CAM at the big 3.
Anybody wanna take a shot with my proof 67 DCAM 57 Lincoln ?
    i will split the cost.
    Coinmoovahs is BS.

Unless it's ultra modern, it's likely more a UCAM fits... brilliant...

I was hoping this would involve jumper cables and a marine battery.

Just like AccuCrap, PCI may grade to their own standard. When did you see a coin that they DIDN"T call cam or deep cam? As far as the tampering, if you had a little more time, I think they have a table at Atlanta starting today. They could inspect the slab and you could ask if the deep cameo left the coin after they slabbed it.image
