Paypal just lowered its fees!

Just rec'd this notice from Paypal, that their fees have been lowered, only catch is, you have to have $100,000.00 in transactions a month to receive the reduced rate. I have a feeling this knocks out just about everybody who uses the service, except for Rolex dealers & Mercedes sellers ...jay

PayPal Is Adding New Tiers to its Fee Structure

Beginning August 6, 2004, PayPal will expand its fee structure to better serve sellers of all sizes. With this new performance-based pricing, sellers can pay as little as 1.9% + $0.30.

The new pricing tiers will:
Reward sellers as their business grows

Provide more opportunity to pay lower fees

Continue to be a cost-effective way to securely and easily accept payments online

This chart shows the new pricing tiers:

U.S. Domestic Fees See Cross-Border Fees

Currency of Payment Monthly Volume Received in USD
Standard Rate Merchant Rate
$0-$3,000 $3,000.01-$10,000 $10,000.01-$100,000 Above $100,000
Fees in USD 2.9%+$0.30 USD 2.5%+$0.30 USD 2.2%+$0.30 USD 1.9%+$0.30 USD

Will there be any immediate effect on sellers?
There will be no change to the current fees until August 6, 2004, at which time sellers may be eligible for the new pricing. Eligibility will be determined at the beginning of every month based on the seller's received volume in the previous calendar month. Sellers can view their monthly volume on their account statements located on the My Account page under the History tab.

What now?
No action is required, however sellers are encouraged to click the Learn More link below.

  • Paypal is the biggest piece of crap out there....at any moment they can freeze you account and hold your funds.....I have over $3200 in my account and had to sue them to release my funds to me......

100,000 a month on PayPal? Who does that kind of business? I love the convenience of the service, but they really stick it to you with their fee structure.

  • There are discounts for other levels of sales volume. Most collectors should at least hit the 2.5% level. Big deal though, .4%.

"Most collectors" do $3000-$10000 in sales through Paypal per month? Dealers, sure. Collectors? No.

on my last auctions, i've quit accepting paypal. i'd rather wait for the money order or check. then i do not have to deal with a 3rd party to get money and then i don't have to give them a percentage. however, depending on how these latest auctions go, i may reconsider

    Thanks,

I don't like the fees at all, but what's worse is waiting for checks or money orders in the mail. And speaking of checks, there is the possibility of getting a bad one, too. I still much prefer PayPal as a seller, and when I buy, I often don't bid if I can't pay that way.

I buy enough from DSL, but I would buy a whole lot more if they took PayPal...wait a minute, DSL... don't listen to me!
