Unc base metal coins.
When I started collecting world coins in the 1970's it seemed that much of most
dealers' stock was older nice circulated pieces, unc silver, and unc later date base-
metal coins. These last tended to be pretty cheap and were not very strong sellers.
There would be horde coins priced about the same as scarcer or lightly saved issues.
What has happened to all these coins? Many dealers don't have much of anything
in later date uncs and when they do it'll be a horde coin. Perhaps my memory is a
little hazy on this or the dealers around here just don't stock this anymore. I used to
run into things like Danish coins from the 1960's and Dutch coins all the way back to
the '50's but now the only source for these seems to be poundage and the coins here
are rarely nicer than an attractive VF.
Do you think there are hordes of any of this stuff? I've seen a few hordes of the earlier
coins in rolls but have never seen much in the way of late date stuff. This could be par-
tially because it's still too cheap to sell.
For instance, I've been hoarding all the nice '50's and '60's greek cu/ni coinage I could
find since about 1976. I've even bought some through the mail. There are only about
fifty pieces of all denominations!! Three years ago Krause listed most of these for a
couple of dollars but they're much higher in the '05 edition. (up to $60)

I can only answer on these post WW2 Greek coins. As far as I can remember they were scarce to rare in unc-BU.
Except the 1965 unc and proof set, most of the other copper-nickel coins of King Paul are almost impossible to find from bank rolls ,
because they've never been hoarded. At least that is my understanding. The ones that were hoarded were the holed 5, 10 and 20 lepta,
and the higher values, usually one year types, 5 and 10 drs, as well as the last silver issues, the 1960 20drs and the 1963-64 30 drs.
The 1954 set sells for $130-$150 , of which 80% goes for the values of 50 lepta ($30), 1 drachma ($40) and 2 drachmas ($50).
The 1957 set is plain rare, around $80-$100 for the 50 lepta, $100 for the 1 drachma and $150 for the 2 drachmas.
The 1959 set has similar prices, around $350-400 for the set of three values.
Finally the 1962-64 set is perhaps the only one hoarded, but still bringing around $75 for the set. 1964 is a scarce date for the 10 and 20 lepta too.Prices are retail (from a shop) for bank roll quality coins.Ebay will usually bring much less for these, so they're rarely offered.
From 1966, things become easier, but certainly not as easy as Krause's prices might suggest , especially for the 1966,67 and 70 coins.
Of the three proof sets that exist, the 1965 is common as is the 1978. The latter sells for as much as $50.
The 1993 proof set is already a rarity and trades around $500+, whenever it's offered.$50 was the price of issue.
