1952 Topps Mickey Mantle Question....

Just looking over some dream cards up for auction and came across a nice Mantle. Scans are really large but the top and bottom edges caught my eye. Around the front left corner you see the edge dip as well as the bottom edge. I've seen that on cards that have been trimmed (have a wave in them). Did 52 have cuts like that? I've seen other Mantles and there are off cuts and OC but haven't noticed the edges dip like that. Just curious....

<< <i>I think the slight "curvature" of the top (like you said, "dome-cut") might be due to the little "ridge" or whatever on the inside top of the slab.. it appears to just barely be touching the top edge of the card, so I wonder if that could have some kinda optical illusion effect?? >>
That's what I'm thinking. The ridge can magnify and distort the edge like a magnifying glass would. I guess we could call this a 1952 Topps Refractor; the very first one ever produced!
<< <i>It's definitely an optical illusion caused by the edge of the card touching the ridge in the slab and appearing to be magnified a bit >>
How is this optical illusion made? I for one have seen thousands of scans over the years and have never seen an optical illusion like this. Check out this sellers other auctions, he has a lot of 52 PSA graded cards and I can't find any with that type of illusion.
