Ticket grading a flop?

I just did a search on ebay for "psa ticket" and found two, count 'em, two tickets listed. I personally think that the prices are way out of line to get a ticket graded. I was wondering what the board thought.

Might just not be that popular an item to collect, unless they are pretty scarce.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
Ticket stubs seem more like something of a sentimental value.
I have concert and world sereies, etc. stubs from the last 30 + years.
I know we were there, and I have the stubs to prove it, why would I bother to get them slabbed ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
1. I'd agree that it is a bit expensive to get them graded. PSA needs to come down on these prices to really make it affordable and more mainstream for collectors. I'd send in a bucket load more if that were the case since I've always liked collecting tickets and saving stubs from sporting events I've attended.
2. I've been searching ebay for PSA graded tickets for the past several months now and depending on when you look, there are anywhere from 2-30 tickets on eBay. This is probably just a lull in the action.
3. In response to wolfbear's comment about "I know we were there, and I have the stubs to prove it, why would I bother to get them slabbed?" Well, you could technically use the same argument about the cards we all collect... in some cases, you know you opened the pack, it's a card you love and will want to keep for a while so why bother to get theat card graded? I always find it interesting when people who broke open a vintage pack, say from the 70s, send it in to have it graded, only to have it come back as "trimmed" or something like that. Here are a few more reasons why I bothered to get some of my tickets graded:
- For the sake of the registry - It's always cool to own the #1 set
- To find out the condition of the ticket - and you gotta admit, a PSA 10 ticket from Rod Carew's 3000th hit game is a pretty cool thing to own!
- Authenticity - in case I ever have to part with them, others will know they are for real.
I don't know if this will ever catch on, but after some encouragement from King Kellogg, I decided to send in my 3000th hit and 500th HR tickets to get them graded. It was a great idea. My tickets used to sit in soft sleeves in a cardboard box collecting dust ... now they're in a nice protective holder with a cool label on the front detailing the significant event that occured, the score of the game, and the grade of the ticket. Perfect for displaying for others to see w/o worrying about the ticket getting damaged. Sort of sounds like my card collection!
BTW, Griffins, that guy that owns 60+ tickets at the Hollywood Park show... do you remember who that was so I can contact them?
I know that Brian Seigel owns quite a few graded tickets - have you been in touch with him?
I've collected tickets for years. I have put together a set of tickets from 75 different major league stadiums and would love to get them slabbed for all of the reasons that you mentioned, especially the display factor. The prices are just too steep to justify in my mind.
I checked out your Carew 3000 hit stub - what a beauty!
The prices are definitely a bit too high to get some of my others graded as well.
(mikeschmidt - I know who Brian is by his name and his incredible collection... how to I get in touch with him?)
e-mail me at mschoenen@mba2005.hbs.edu and I'll let you know tonight
Impressive that ( 2 ) sets are complete. However, the grade weight process is unique vs. cards.
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs
Nothing on ebay
Since you know all the tickets are authentic, and you just want to display them wouldn't having them matted and framed do a better job of that than floating tickets in a mylar sack, in an oversized holder?

Don't know his name, but I'll see if I can find out. You should have driven the 90 minutes north to the show!

Plus, I don't think that a numerical grade makes that much of a difference on a ticket the way it would on a card. Ticket collectors (from what I gather) aren't gung-ho on condition, e.i. one graded ex as opposed to near mint isn't THAT big of a deal.
edited spelling
One of these days I'll have to make the drive up. Just too busy playin golf on the weekends!
In response to interchanges comments, I'd agree, before PSA Ticket grading, I could care less about the "condition" of the tickets.. actually, I still really don't care that some of my tickets are PSA 7. I don't scruntinize them at all and don't really care to "upgrade" them either. However, the registry is a cool thing to be a part of and I'm glad to have registered my ticket sets.
Like I said earlier, if the prices came down on the grading, I think more people might be inclined to take the plunge.
Is anyone from PSA seeing this thread??
I built my set long before the registry came to be. When PSA announced that they would be grading tickets, I thought it would be cool to have the set listed on the registry as a "stadium" set. The prices kept me from pursuing it. It's been around a year now since ticket grading has started, and there appears to be very little interest in the ticket registry or in graded tickets on ebay. That's why I started the thread. I wonder if PSA made the grading more comparable to card prices if there would be more interest.

I only though it got the authentic designation when the condition was so bad, it would grade out less than a 1. (Levi's T206 Wagner comes to mind) (Missing 1/4 of the card).]
Anyone know why?
Yes, I 've seen slabbed full tickets.
