Am I evil for doing this?

Okay, I know a lot of people out there have done this and/or will never admit to this. This is what makes the veins pop out of my head and steam out of my ears. When a buyers fails to pay then leaves you retailatory negative after you have given he/she theirs for not paying......but wait....don't get mad....get even!
I have a list of those deadbeats sitting right next to my computer (the ones not NARU and still exist), and I will wait.....wait.....wait.....(sometimes up to months or whenever I'm bored) until the deadbeat finally sells something on Ebay and I'm there bidding on their crap under another name (ususally with 1-5 feedback) to deliberately destroy their auctions. Yes it's wrong, but it makes me feel better and get back at the scum to see how he/she likes it because ebay does not care about retailatory negative. Anyone else done this or something similar?

I haven't done it, but I don't think that's evil. Turnabout is fair play.

I like your style too but its a bit softcore....the better thing would be winning the auction, getting the
guys address after the auction, signing him up for 4 years of playgirl (checking "BILL ME
    LATER", THEN dropping a negative!

    Good Luck and Have Fun!

Good one JS. I think I'll jot that down and keep that in mind.
Keep them coming in....the nastier the better depending on the magnitude or $ amount involved. They deserve it.
  • Well you have his address at that point, so why not just stake a sign on his front lawn that "A registered Meagan's Law sex offender lives here!"

Bet he has to move within a few weeks.

But, I haven't done anything like this yet, though I admit I seriously have wanted to. Many times!

  • Just my 2 cents but is a negative feedback really worth all the time spent? Come on, if someone has seveal hundred or so positive feedbacks with a couple negatives then I'll still bid. I mean if you demonstrate consistency selling then a couple negatives really aren't any issue. Sounds like EagleEye has some issues.

JS, that is funny but equally screaming of issues

I don't have issues, but you can't tell me that you don't get peed off for a blatant slanderous remark because the buyer felt he/she had to do it just to get back at you after numerous attempt to get them to fulfill their part of the deal only to hear promises and excuses for 40+ days. Revenge is fun and eases boredom.
  • eagleeyekid. How would you be destroying the guy's auctions by bidding on the guy's auctions? You will only make him more money by running the other bidders up when you place bids. If you end up winning and not paying, he just offers it to the underbidder or gets his fees back. If he offers to the underbidder it will be at a higher than normal price because you helped run the bid up. Your costing us all money and actually helping the seller if you do this.
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
There is just no need for this type of crap. If someone leaves you a negative then you have to leave them
one and most likely you will tell them what you really think about them on the feedback and then
people will get scared off and not bid on your stuff. Its just too easy to get an ebay user id now a days, the
one neg I got the guy had a feedback rating of -4....he should of been gone a long time ago! Not to mention
the guys with 100 retractions a month! I thought the rule was.......if you enter a wrong bid amount, then you
retract it and THEN enter the right amount.....guys doing this crap just to find out my reserve makes
me mad too! Its a good thing there are plenty of those mag advertisements that fall out of mags
    at the local bookseller! LOL

  • I've had a couple neg feedbacks that I felt were undeserved. But I have way more important things in my life to get bent over then EBay feedbacks. Things like the state of our country, how many times I have to go to Iraq and am I going to be a good dad to my new son. Not issues about pieces of cardboard that we collect FOR FUN and ENJOYMENT

Red...easy boy, we aren't talking about a neg after slow shipping or a damaged card that we sent out, we
are talking about some jerk that just bids and has no plan on paying for it and then just to be a punk
drops a neg. There are negs that we feel may be undeserved and then there are just punks. we are
    discussing the later.

    Thanks

With all due respect, and you are addressing a career person of two wars also, this isn't about what people would or could do better with their time - it's about venting on a topic that irritates a lot of ebayers. Again, I don't sell but for many, it appears the positives are worn like a red badge of courage versus the negatives being the 'scalet letters' of ignominy. As I wouldn't dream of telling you what to do with your time, I think my friends here are owed the same in kind.

  • I guess it just means more to other people then it does to me. It's feedback people, not life or death. So what people are jerks? Does that mean you need to lower yourself to there level? It just seems like the time you put in for revenge is a little pointless. Vent all you want. It's a free forum. Life is to short for meaningless actions. The short term enjoyment you get from screwing someone else is really meaningless in the long run. Maybe I was a bit over dramatic but I guess that was my point

Stone- I'm quite well aware of the fact that you are a career military man. You have said it a couple times before. I am also a career military man who is still serving and done multiple tours in places that were unpleasant.

I apologize if somehow you think I am bragging or complaining - I only brought it up because you mentioned you had more pressing things on your mind, e.g. if I have to go back to Iraq, - others actually have very pressing things also - I mentioned it as a "balance" to your point - not to be special or to draw attention to myself - I was only trying to bring out the point you just made - this was just a fun - spirited discussion of an annoyance. Tell me you haven't been cut off by someone and had the 'urge' to retalliate? There's a thin line between "judgement" and opinion from my point of view.

Most important - I am not looking for confrontation - I was only defending a position of free discussion.

When it comes to dealing with a jerk, I think it might be healthy to the psyche at times to play the role of a vigilante or seek such manner of justice. I also think you need to pick your battles. One cannot go around seeking retribution on every instance where one has been wronged, so choose battles wisely. Sometimes it is easier to let things go, but its not healthy to have people walk over you all the time. Getting cut off on the freeway, or getting a parking space taken away may need a back seat to things like getting screwed by the dentist or the auto repair technician, where more money is involved. However, if you are generally lucky and rarely get wronged, then you can afford to pick the smaller battles.

I would refrain from doing something classless though.... Suing someone or filing a report is more classy and sends a message. You want to maintain your dignity and show you don't appreciate being taken advantage of. Its not good to sink to the Jerk's level.

The Domino Pizza trick I would not recommend since there is caller ID and innocent people are involved as well. As for JS's magazine trick, well, that is very interesting....

The ebay feedback system is messed up, so retaliatory negatives are common. If a buyer does not pay, simply file a report and wait until the 89th day before leaving feedback. I have heard people say one can leave feedback beyond the 90 days, but I just don't see it. Tell me how then, because I could sure use it for something that happened a year ago.

    <89th day before leaving feedback>

does not work, feedback can be left for about 90 days, in the case you mention about a transaction of a year ago it can't be found now as ebay has taken it out of its database.
    Good for you.

Those are good words. I really thought that most of the retalliation rhetoric was just that - venting and talking. It's fun to think of things that you might want to do to someone but acting on them can bring more harm than good. Anyone who is in the 'customer service' business of any kind knows that you have to take the good with the bad. I had mentioned earlier that I have deduced from the discussions of past that sometimes it's better to ignore a small transaction with non-payment than get the unwanted negative - if one doesn't want one in return.

    WinPitcher,

I thought so too. That means the 89th day at 11:59 PM would be the best time to leave a negative, right?

<< <i>feedback can be left for about 90 days >>

    DG - Win
Personal, one time experience - due to a special situation, I had decided not to leave feedback on a seller - the transaction stayed on my "leave feedback" list for exactly 90 days and then disappeared - to my knowledge there was no way to remove it unless one left feedback of some kind before that period when is vanished.

you know what would be great.....is if we could leave feedback for the packs or boxes we open or even
the dealer who sold it to us! How great would that be? You think cards would be centered and mint?
You think dead-end redemptions would be gone? Maybe have a feedback list on the front door of
card shops. I can think back of all the people early on in toppsvault who got even! Kinda funny and the
only time I have ever seen ebay reverse negs.

  • DeutscherGeistDeutscherGeist Posts: 2,990 ✭✭✭✭
    Stone, WinPitcher,

I trust what you guys say. I can't find any evidence that feedback can be left after 90 days, but I did see someone from the board claim there was a way. I do want to take advantage of the 89th day if it is truly the way we think it is about the expiration date. I never negged someone, but I want some kind of weapon just in case.

I'm not a huge fan of the idea (since you'll just get hit with a negative, even if it is under another ID), but it's certainly more inventive than other things I've seen. Then again, one member of this board is currently threatening any auctions I might run due to my turning in a buddy of his to Safe Harbor, so I'm a bit sensitive to matters such as these.
