Wondering about NAXCOM these days... (w/ the flashing banner and all....)

I did a search for NAXCOM and found a bunch of threads
all filled with people who say "I don't use it, but wonder if
anyone wants to or is interested in" NAXCOM
but the latest post was from Feburary... and before that it
was late 2003!

Now we have that Wonderful, flashing billboard at the top
of the forum....

so is ANYONE using this service???

  • They've talked to me at shows about becoming their main prospect seller on the site, which i might do in the next few months. They're making a huge push for it, but without seeing the actual card you will be getting and with the whole "Near Mint or better" condition on modern cards, it doesn't seem like buyers feel too secure.

Thankfully the Naxcom ad on the top of my screen doesn't flash, I barely notice it. And it would be no difference to me viewing these boards if the ad was for Naxcom, Pepsi or PSA themselves. It doesn't phase me...jay

I put a card up and misspelled the players name. You would think it would be easy to edit that type of information..... nope would have to "cancel" it out and reinput. To much work left it like it is. So far I have one person asking to buy a BV $150 card for $10. Im not impressed.... but I have yet to really try....

I used it a week ago to buy 2 serial numbered parallels on a set I collect, a serial numbered insert of a player I collect, a vintage PSA 7 FB HOFer for 85% of SMR (counting shipping) . . . and discount tickets to all 3 days of the Hollywood Park show. I will definitely be looking at graded cards this weekend.

I wish Naxcom would listen to all of the advice they are getting about how to improve their site. I love any "alternatives" to ebay, and always hope they do well.... but Naxcom is just so frustrating to navigate sometimes. One type of search will show card numbers... one won't. Some searches show tons of cards that no one even has listed. The "stock photo" idea is a real turn off. You have to double and triple click to get out of pages sometimes, and you never end up where you want to be. You've got some auctions that are going down in prices every day / week, some auctions where you can make offers and if they are close enough the seller gets an e-mail, then of course you can post your buy offers and wait for people to contact you, or you can just buy cards at fixed prices, etc. Between that and the Contests, points, payment waiting periods, fund your account, useless seller info, ... the list goes on and on.

I tried to explain my frustrations to one of their "reps" at the Ft.Washington show. I'm not sure if she was anything more than a "spokesmodel", but she didn't seem too interested. As I was talking to the dealer at the table next to theirs... I bet I heard 10 other people echo the same exact things to her; "been there, tried it, too frustrating and not worth the effort"

I'm betting if they don't make some changes soon .... they won't be around much longer.

Mike, you are 100% correct. I have tried to navigate around that site many times, and it is very frustrating. Plus, the array of items just isn't that attractive all the time. The site needs improvement, unlike those spokesmodels - image I remember seeing one very cute one in particular at last year's National who was the only reason I signed up with the site!

I joined Naxcom for one reason and one reason only. To get into their shows for free by just printing out my account # and presenting it at the door everytime I go. There are some stuff of interest for sale that I come across now and then but have never purchased or sold anything as it seems too complicated. Way too much work and low expectations.
  • Actually, they had a survey somewhere when you sign in, don't know what's the link. Along with the site being hard to navigate, If a seller doesn't send you the card and doesn't contact you, you get you're money back...but what they don't seem to answer is how do they deal with deadbeat seller on their sites. I had one seller that didn't contact me, and he's still selling, although he hasn't had a sale (aside from mines which I didn't get imageisgustimage. Other than that it's only good for cheap inserts/GU/auto's, etc. that you don't mind putting for sale (there's no time limit ,although you can set time limits when the ad can be pulled if it doesn't sell.) and sold funds can be used to get a RC or card that you want (although, I find myself comparing ebay and Naxcom to see which ones are closer in price). That's how I got my SPx Albert PUjols AUTO RC.

while I agree that the search feature is bad

and the "stock photo" thing is stupid....

but my problem is simpler than that.

I just think everything is way to damn expensive.

there was not single thing I was looking at that was
even REASONABLE much less low. Since people do not
have to pay to list, they just list for free with a REDICULOUS
price and if it never sells so what?!

I echo what BKAH said. In vintage, the buy offers are all ridiculously low and the sell prices are full dealer retail or higher. It's not much of a "marketplace" if no transactions are taking place. I can't attest to the modern side of the aisle, however.

I remember last year after I signed up, I got a 10% off anything coupon. I used it to buy a box of Bowman Chrome FB. I did not know who the seller was, as they don't seem to tell you. I got the box, and saw it was shipped by Dave & Adams. No problem, except the same box was available for a few dollars less on their own site. That was my first and last transaction so far.
