Mercateers - 1916-D question

I am saving up for a 16-D and I think the target will be an AU coin. Using a well graded example, not an upgrade candidate or overgraded coin, what do you think the current price on an AU coin, 53,55,58 is in the current market?

The price guides are never the place to look and there are crazies who put AU coins on eBay for 11K. Thanks in advance.

Hmm... I'll with somewhere between the amount of money I have in my pocket, and the amount of money and Bill Gates' pocket....... image

I know an AU '16-D is way out of my budget at the moment, but I haven't a clue about pricing...

Heritage sold some AU 50's for around 3,000,one Au 58 for 10,000 must have had a chance for upgrade.

I think I saw the coin on ebay at Central States. The coin looked great, but way out of my budget. There was also a MS65FB coin for about $40,000 (that coin was a true gem). I think there is an outside chance at getting a low end AU at between $6000 and $7000. About a year ago these coins were at about 2/3 the price they are now, and they seem to go up everyday.

  • heh... either which way... a 16-D in almost any grade is out of my budget... at least, without saving for several months. AG3s are goin for about $400 now, right? Hmm... any ideas on a FR2?
