IMHO, they shouldn't have had to make Bourque (and Roy) wait to be inducted. Both should have gotten the "Gretzky/Lemieux express" into the Hall of Fame.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • Nick,

Did you put the request in? If not, I will. LMK.

I didn't even realize that Murphy was already eligible. Doubt that I would've voted for him in his first year of eligibility, especially with Bourque and Coffey already going in.

As for some of this year's Hall of Fame also-rans, I think Ciccarelli should one day get in and I could certainly live with Glenn Anderson in the Hall of Fame, but it wouldn't be a grave injustice if he never makes it.

  • Dino has 600 career goals. how is he not in already?

When you spread those out over Dino's 38 years in the league, it becomes a bit less impressive. Seriously, though, Dino had a couple of very good years with Minnesota and some good seasons with the Caps and Wings, but he was never a first- or even second-team NHL All Star. Dino was a solid player with career numbers that are worthy of the Hall of Fame, but he never had a dominant season and never really towered over his peers the way Bourque or Coffey did. For similar reasons, Dave Andreychuk will have to wait awhile before he gets in.

  • Didn't Hawerchuk get in first time around? Those guys are arguable in the same league as Hawerchuk. They'll all get no problem.

A defenseman with Murphy's numbers has to be a first ballot HOF'er. The three players that made it were no brainers in my mind. With such a strong crop this year it makes sense that Dino has to wait another year. He's just the odd man out. Personally I'd put Cam Neely in before Dino. He was an electrifying player.

IMO, no player should be exempt from waiting, including Gretzky and Lemieux.

The problem is the limit of 3 inductees per year. Were it not for that, Hawerchuk, Neely and Ciccarelli would all be in already.
  • I didn't realize there was a three player a year limit. Interesting.

And Hawerchuk is in. Like I said before....he was a first year induction ....that was in 2001.

Scotty Bowman is on the selection comittee. Nothing more needs to be said

Coffey , Murphy , and Bourque are very worthy candidates and Dino should of been in last year
