<< <i>Honest seller, can't say that about the grader! >>
Chad Capitol Grading is like Pro and Gem Grading - they all holder trimmed cards! Why would anyone with sportscard and ebay experience resell this stuff? BTW, I have never been able to find any site for Capitol grading company - has anyone else? Mike
I was at a local show yesterday and got a kick out of seeing a 86 Donruss Clemens in a MINT holder graded 10... the card could practically rotate in the holder it was so small. And the guy is telling me it books in SMR for $65 and he'll sell it for $50, like I'm a complete moron. Some poor fool is eventually going to pay $50 for that worthless piece of junk. I also saw a GEM 10 Joe Dumars rookie with a $50 sticker on it... it was missing a solid 3/16 top to bottom, and probably another 1/8 left to right. OK, as a dealer who obviously knows the card is sliced, is it even worth trying to recover a few dollars for it considering the negative effects it could have on the dealer down the road if people realized they're selling trimmed cards?
I can tell you why. I have a "few" FGS cards. I got them with one of the lots. If I do not sell them Im shooting myself in the foot. Now I will never sell them (unless the bidding gets that high) for anything then what they are. The Min bid is usually $1.99. I do not "hype" the card nor push it in anyway. I put it out there and let the buyer decide. I can not tell if it is "cut".
I did have a Lebron that was a "10" but had an obvious corner dink. I would NEVER sell it.
Jim In your case I can understand - it was a job lot and you need to get your $ out of it. And, BTW, I did do an inexpensive check - I bought a Gem 10 Griffey for 8$ - total cost 11$ to check it out - it did not appear to be a reprint and it was exactly the correct size - if I crack it, I may find something I am missing since these companies put the cards in penny sleeves. Having said that, there is a "fair" rule - if you measure the card and it is Greater than 1/32" short, the card should not have been holdered in the first place and the card is probably compromised with respect to value IMO. I am not accusing anyone of anything or directing my opinion at anyone - my points are academic and for discussion with respect to grading criteria as such. Mike
Not taken as an attack. Just letting you know there are "some" (well not you or a few others but people that may not know) valid reasons to sell "crap". As long as the crap is not overly hyped. I mean it still is a card......kinda.....
I've collected '89 Score for years and of the thousands of cards I have seen, none has been as badly centered as that one. I thought trimming was supposed to improve centering? (ar at least not make it worse)
There were a fair amount of new cards in 1999 and 2000 that were put in offbrand grading company holders by people who did not know any better (usually right after one of these companies ran a Beckett or Tuff Stuff ad). There are some legitimate cards to be found that way, especially if the card is serial numbered, autographed, or game-used - where its value is less dependent on its condition.

CGS obviously has a 20-point grading scale. This card is their equivalent of a PSA 5!!
