The ole eBay scamarooski!

Humm, for some reason this guy won't respond to my emails on the Nagurski, asking if I can pay and pick up the card in person. Check out his other auctions - all mid-grade historic rookie cards.

Yep, that auction raised my scam senses, too.
I'd like for it to be real, given how infrequently real Nagurski Chicles pop up, but I'm not willing to gamble on this one.

I don't get the $50 s+h... At the price these cards are going to sell for... what's the point? Sometimes I see guys do this to avoid some ebay fees, but thats on cards that book 250-500 for example.

    Although...
    Express Mail $17.85
Express Mail Insurance (Insured for $5,000.00) $49.00
    Return Receipt $1.75
    Total Cost: $68.60

Maybe $50 isn't so bad if he ships it overnight to you! image

That 51B Mantle SGC 80 sure looks nice.
  • I like how he covers the one negative feedback - he doesn't refute the Thief reference to himself, he says don't listen to this guy cause he's no longer registered!
  • Oh and don't forget the old - this auction is private to protect the bidders crap!
  • total BS auction. he used photoshop to create an SGC holder for the card. it looks nothing like real SGC holders
  • real

  • Thanks CON40. I gotta admit this board has sure heightened my awareness, thanks everyone - you all saved me a ton of $ bidding on a bogus Nagurski!

FYI, after I reported him, I sent him a "friendly" note... enjoy!

    Hey bud;
This is no great buy! Your card is phony. It is obvious you have made a composite image of a card, slab, and serial numbered flip. Just a heads up. You have been reported to eBay and the FBI (attempted wire fraud). They have been given evidence of what an untampered authentic SGC slab looks like and what your attempt looks like in comparison. Your fake is very obvious. Given the amount of money you are trying to scam, this is a metter that will be dealt with swiftly and harshly by law enforcement.
  • good job con40. i always love sending these clowns rude emails

And the ever present "Western Union".
    image
  • Assuming the card is real and not a fotoshop job, and assuming it could be a $7500 card (I don't collect football so I dont know the value) did you guys even notice the $50 INCLUDES insurance? I have shipped stuff with $2500 insurance and it costs like $25, so I don't think he's being full of it if it's a $7500 card. Although it could be suggested to send it registered which cuts down on the insurance costs but of course......the BUYER will have to be home to sign for it which is many times not feasible.

Now why are you getting upset about not being able to pick it up? I love when people ask a seller this AFTER they win an auction (this goes back to that eBay buyer Moron thread). That wasn't offerred in his contract, but think now if the seller has $200,000+ worth of cards, home furnishings, art, jewelry, etc. in his home. Do you really think he wants strangers coming to his home who could case the joint??? Perhaps he has pretty young daughters that he doesn't want to take a chance that a Meagan's law sex offender may be coming. If you're a burglar, by going there, you know the door's being open for you, a complete stranger, and you will be in the home. Renders the home alarm useless. Real easy to tie them up, shoot them or whatever. What a lapse of home security and risk you are asking the seller to take for a nominal cost!!! I have made exceptions when a person lives real close. But my condition is that I meet them at my local police station that's a mile from my house. And guess what, after I request that, about 50% whom requested to pick it up, say forget it and to just send it. What does THAT tell you?? PLus the hassle of the ones that don't show up or the ones that show up 1/2 hour late, etc.

Sorry, but (assuming it's real) I'm on this seller's side.
  • I think you have to look at the big picture with this seller. This guy has not been selling much at all (5 feedbacks from buyers, 1 of which is the negative, and the other 4 were for stuff he sold last year). He's selling six very high-dollar cards that all end at the same time, and he only as a 15 feedback rating as it is. Plus look at the fact that he's made all his auctions private. If you end up winning his auctions, I'd bet my bottom dollar that you will never receive them. This guy I'm sure is going to take the money and run and abandon his eBay account. Just keep a watch after his auctions end and see the negatives start to roll in.
You spilled WHAT on my 1952 Topps Mantle?!?!?! Doh!!

    My 1952 Topps Baseball Set
  • Spigrimace,
I never said I had to meet this guy at his house. I offered to met him at his convenience, anywhere he wants. That would be me, willing to fly to his city, go anywhere he suggests, at his convenience to give him a very large amount of money.

If the seller is reputable, with real feedback that can be verified, perhaps a phone number, or heaven forbid he could at least respond to emails! I have purchased high dollar cards from most of the reputable dealers on eBay - most are well known. This seller is definitely not.

I have sent this guy 5 emails, none of which he has the courtesy to respond, and yet I, as a buyer should have no worries about handing over a huge amount of money.

    spigrimace;

If you think the seller may be legit, why does he digitally manufacture his images? These are not actual scans of cards in slabs, but composite images built with a card, a slab, and a flip all from different sources. Don't believe me? Check out his other auction:

    1951 Mantle SGC???

This card is obviously in a PSA slab. Yet, this turd is so crooked, yet stupid, he puts an SGC flip on it that's 3 times too big! Now, why would he do this do you think?

Still want to defend this human excrement? He is trying to steal thousands of dollars from unsuspecting stooges with more money than brains. And, yes, thos estooges should be doing thier homework, but if we can spot it, don't we have an obligation to do somehting about it?
  • Hey, all my PSA holders have SGC flips! And I have PSA flips in SGC holders. And my VW is really a Mercedes, since I have a Mercedes hood ornament on my VW.
  • I'll buy Bill's argument of the bigger picture argument to put up a red flag.

I'd also buy the argument on that the foto is composite assuming you can prove that (I'm a digital foto neanderthal).

But I still won't buy the argument that $50 insured shipping for a $7500 card is why some were putting up a red flag.

$7500 is a big money deal and to get it as a seller, i'd jump through hoops and do alittle work. Let's say you really want this card but have some reservations due to the arguments I agree with above, why not try this....

BEFORE YOU BID, Contact the seller and get in writing that he'd accept using escrow and a stipulation that the money is not released to the seller until the card is slabbed authenticated by PSA along with providing the PSA serial # all at the buyer's cost? The buyer could send the seller two checks. One made out to PSA for the grading/shipping fees and the other to cover the seller's shipping/insurance cost to PSA (the most you'd be out at this point). In the meantime, you send the money to the escrow company. The seller hopefully send the card to PSA who in turn will 1) send a grading report prior to shipping it and 2) even if the seller is lo-down and makes a fake PSA holder, you could verify the id # b4 allowing the escrow company to release funds.

If he doesn't accept those terms, you don't bid. In fact, why doesn't a naysayer here try and contact him on it and see if he'll do it?

  • did it myself. I'll let you know if I get a response:

Question from eBay Member: 1935 NATIONAL CHICLE #34 BRONKO NAGURSKI SGC 60 PSA 5 ! (Item # 5100828477)

    Dear greatbuys51,

Hi, Considering you have a very low ebay rating for such a high ticket item that might be $5000+, would you accept the following terms before I bid for the Bronko Nagurski card?: We will use eBay's escrow company and a stipulation that the money is not released to the seller until the card is slabbed authenticated by PSA and a confirmed PSA serial # that can be authenticated for this card all at the buyer's cost. The buyer will send the seller via priority mail, a check made out to PSA for the grading/shipping/insurance fees. The card will be sent from PSA to the escrow company. In the meantime, the buyer will deposit the winning bid amount with the escrow comapny within 48 business hours of closing of the auction. The buyer is responsible for all shipping and insurance costs and responsibility of the shipping of the card from the escrow company to the buyer. The escrow company will only release funds to seller upon receipt of the PSA slabbed authentic card and a serial number that the escrow company can confirm on the PSA website. If the card is returned unauthentic by PSA, escrow company will return funds to buyer, return card to seller and seller owes no refund to buyer of PSA or other fees and buyer shall owe seller no reimbursement of eBay fees. let me know as I really want to bid, but there are too many fakes out there. Thanks!

spi - look at his "holder" against a real SGC holder (like the Oakley in the thread). Then look at a PSA holder. His "SGC holder" is the wrong shape, has a flip of the wrong size, and doesn't have the black insert.

Don't expect a response from him. 99% of the time the typical ebay scammers don't reply to emails because the morons out there paying $2000+ for fake cards and cards the seller doesn't even have bid up the auctions enough to provide the scammer with the money he is looking for.
