  • that is so much BS that UD does this! I mean come one 150.00 is at best and you didnt get the worst box made! UD is a joke(as far as busting to make cash). I thought about buying one at the Sportsfest but I am thinking different! What would you suggest. I have twin infant boys and this is my weekend to get away. I wnat to bust a really nice box of cards and thought this might be it but I would rather bust a vintage wax pack(86-87 fleer) than bust a UD 500.00 pack.

I only open maybe two or three boxes a year(bought two boxes of ultimate collection at Sun Times in March)
I got maybe 350.00 sold on ebay for the 600.00 I spent.

Wow - kuhlmann, that is awful! I hate to say it, but even $150 sounds like a lot for those cards. I bought three boxes of Ultimate in the last month, and one box was so bad I was embarassed to list the break here. The other two didn't even bring half of what I paid for them ($400 a box). I give up on these UD lottery boxes, as we all should.

I didn't realize it was out already, I thought it wasn't supposed to ship til Thursday or Friday. Did you hear what anyone else got out of the 5 boxes you sold?

No i didnt hear what the other boxes had in them as they were website orders and shipped out today.
There is about 50 cards listed on ebay right now, there is a dennis rodman auto over 400$ and a lebron auto over 640$ last time i looked. but man there are a lot of duds!! Im sticking to heritage and box cost of 75 and below. thats the first time i opened a lottery box and i wish i would of bought lottery tickets instead!

I find this bust ironic....actually it isn't that bad, yet you are right you will be lucky to get 150 back
for it! Does this teach us something?

Could you give us a price break down on this...like how much cost was and how much you sold these for?
Im curious. A PM is fine if you don't want to announce this info.

Hey at least you can say that you got in on this even though it was junk, there will be many
collectors shut out....(and that might not be a bad thing!) LOL

    Thanks for sharing!

I stopped by the local card shop after work to pick up a few supplies, and they had a box (pack?) available for $599.00.

Sad thing is, I actually thought about it for a minute...and then came to my senses.

  • wouldn't is always be cheaper to buy the main chase card (one of the 15 different lebrons, i couldnt tell which one was the real rookie) than to bust a few packs of this trash?
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
yes but that makes too much sense, and isn't as fun as ripping wax even if you know 99.999999% that you
won't be getting your money back. There was a guy on beckett who ripped 3 boxes..first box pulled
a Luke Walton which is guess i ok, second one yeilded a Carmello auto patch /25 and the third
    4 auto patches.

i sold them for 500$ a box wich was the srp. My website had them at 800 but it was a misprint and i had a lot of emails about that. told them 500 through emails and sold them pretty fast. after i went to post office today, i kept one for myself and told everyone sold out. THIS IS WHY I WANTED TO HANG MYSELF!

Cost for dealers on this product will run 340-400 depending where you get it! I dont care if other dealers out me for saying the cost! Any smart box buyer can usually figure out how much a box cost by just checking ebay!! i mean ebay has prices cheaper than cost sometimes thats why my website(actually my brothers business) is geared towards fan shop stuff like things for your house cars tailgating etc..
I know i sold enough boxes to cover my cost but i could of got another 500 if i just sold the last box. but i thought hey maybe carmelo or lebron sells for 25k i have to take one shot at this! well thats my last shot the gamble!!
i am happy to say that i at leats narrowed it down for the customers that did buy the boxes. I hope out of the other 5 boxes there was something to make someone happy, but as i check ebay tonite i only see a couple of cards selling for more than the 400$ box break!
I actually saw a travis hansen (doo whop) auto patch rookie card from exquisite on ebay for .99 cents!!!! why i ask why?? would they put a player like that in a 400$ box??? I know some people will bid on that and maybe win for 15$ and maybe one day he becomes an allstar and then sell it for 150$. I just cant see why a player like him (or the F#$@#^^cking glenn robinson auto i got) deserve to be in a product of this cost?? anyone agree with that?

Just type in on ebay ud exquisite in the search bar and it will pull up all the cards pulled and listed so far.
I will put my cards out there tomorow. i am actually thinking about holding on to the boris diaw auto rc what do you guys think about him?
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
There are actually quite a few cards from this on Ebay right now - including a Rodman auto and a Lebron auto. Those cards are the only ones bringing over the price of a box, so far.

I saw that break on the Beckett boards. The box with the 4 auto patches consisted of 4 mediocre players, the only card of note (from a different box) was the Carmelo /25. Hopefully, that gets him his case price back.

I'd love to build a base set of this stuff. I wonder how cheaply it could be done. Less than the price of one pack, I bet.

2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

You might have a heck of a search on your hands. I don't recall how many base cards there are in the set, but they are all numbered (I think to 225). I always wondered if an Ultimate Collection base set was possible, but there are even more base cards in that set, all numbered as well. The set isn't even priced in Beckett, so I would bet it is not something many will attempt to do.

Someone earlier had commented on the quality of the Lebron/Koby card - since this is such a limited set, did they take care to insure that each card is really nice? How are the corners, gloss, workmanship? Just curious.

Well... here is how it works. You get a cheesy outside cardboard box, open that. Inside is a cardboard box, taped up and then inside that is a either a plastic bag or that "styrofoam" sheet which wraps the maple box (which is actually quite nice imo). In the maple box is a pack similar to what UC has. A small cardboard "cigarette" pack wrapped in cello. Open that up and you will see the base card on top. They aren't in any cases or anything so the possibility for them to be damaged is probably small, but existent. Most of my cards came out just fine.

A couple of the cards had that kind of "wavy" look similar to what Playoff Contenders sometimes look like. All the cards are 120pt stock, even the base. The surface is very clean, I really like the design and I didn't have any that had any separation of layers on the thick cards. I have had that problem in SPGU patch and some Donruss products.

Overall, I am very pleased with the look, feel and design of the cards and the condition they arrived in. They have about the same sheen as UC/SPA except they aren't the "painted" (think Fleer Focus/SPA) cards that are notorious for having bubbling and pitmarks, these are foil, but they didnt' have any scratches!

Hope that helps. I tried to be descriptive! image

I was able to get to about 60% of the base SP Game-Used Patch baseball set within the first week, buying only 10-20 card lots and paying an average of about $2.50 per card. I kind of lost interest after that, but I'm sure it could be done for under $350, maybe $500-600 if you get the serial numbered cards and RCs. This basketball set seems to be a little more expensive right now, maybe $5-15 per base card, but depending on how many there are, it could be an impressive project.

According to the checklist, there are 78 "base" cards. 5 of them are /99, the rest are /225. I agree, it would be a challenge, but I bet a lot of unhappy buyers will be dumping the base cards on the Bay hoping to get some of their $500 back. One guy even sold the empty box for $51!

I saw that box sale. While I wouldn't pay $51 for those boxes, they are very nice. Honestly, if you took the plexi top off and put some wood filler in the screw holes, you'd have a pretty nice jewelry box. lol

I will be pulling the foam insert out and using my boxes to hold some of my cards, they stand up in there and look very nice. You will be impressed with these boxes. They're made out of maple or cherry, and have a nice finish on them and have invisible hinges on the inside that disappear into the box. They're quite nice actually.

I opened the lid on one last night and just stood 3 of my card on end inside the box for display and it looks really nice.

That being said, I'll sell all the ones I have for $50 each! image
