Any news on 2004 Lincoln pops?

Just think it is strange that no one has one in his/her set yet

Intersting note about pops... I think Wondercoin once mentioned approx 1 in 500 1992 mint sets has an ms66 P quarter (pop is low 20's or something). Well, that seems pretty rare right? Well if approx 2,000,000 mint sets were made that means there are approx 4,000 out there (not counting ones from rolls too) so does't seem quite so rare.

Another random thought, pops of coins since 1998 are huge compared to earlier years, but who has these coins? Dealers? There are only something like 80 Lincoln Memorial Registry sets but I think pops are in the 1000's or close to 1000 for 1999-2003. I can't imagine many collectors wanting a 2003 coin in pcgs plastic unless they want it for a registry set.

People are waiting for the MS69's in the mint sets. They will be common, much like 2003.

Haletj: You mention the 1992 quarter, the possible 1/500 best guess of MS66's and the 2,000,000 mint sets, raising the issue whether an MS66 is "rare" (which I do not believe it is, although that particular in true MS67 grade I believe is very scarce).

Those type of discussions always remind me of the 1946(p) Lincoln cent in PCGS-MS67 grade. One can look at the total coins graded and other variables, but, it is hard to ignore that approximately 1,000,000,000 1946(p) Lincolns were minted. That compared to under 400,000,000 1992(p) quarters (which is also high, but, Atlantic City and Vegas got ahead of many of these coins to be sure as folks tried to win Megabucks in the slots!) Yet, the 1946(p) Lincoln cent in MS67RD is worth multi-thousands of dollars right now and is on many a want list. What % of the 1,000,000,000 Lincolns from that year have been searched even to this day? Then, consider the 2003 $100 Platinum Eagle with a total mintage of roughly 7,500 coins.

It's 1:15 a.m. and I started "work" at 7:00 a.m. (yesterday). I better stop now before I am looking at another 18 hour day. image

I haven't seen one in my change yet, so the fact that none are in sets doesn't surprise me. Additionally, the flood wont start until the mint sets come out.

If you are looking for low pop Lincoln cents, why not try finding these two proofs:
1909VDB Matte Proof in ANY grade or
1990 no S Proof in ANY grade

certified and holdered by PCGS, NGC or ANACS

To my way of thinking, these two coins are more desireable than any 2004 Lincoln cent in any grade up to and including MS69. Now if PCGS would slab a 2004 business strike as a MS70, well then I would then have to change my mind. Steveimage

I had hoped to receive my proof sets from the Mint this week but they did not arrive. I'm sending my 2004-S in the NEXT day for my set. I keep looking at others...and I have not seen one yet. My guess is that many registry set players are holding out to see if they can get a PR70. And that brings up another question I have. Why are so many 70's given out now??? I thought PCGS was stringent??????

Question.... Is there a safe way to remove the spots that the mint wash has left on the 2004D cent coins???
