Has anyone seen anything like this????

I am going through my sisters collection and came across this!!!! The obverse is a Kennedy half and the reverse is a Mexican obverse - they don't appear to have been attached together - there is no seam and the edge is reeded all the way around. Any help would be appreciated. I posted this on the US forum also - maybe there is an answer.

I think this is a mule - but I can't explain how it got this way.

Seriously - the metal looks quite strange - not a regular US planchet - so it isn't a US mint item

They could have milled out a pocket and trimmed the half down and then pressed it into the pocket.

Oldshep- I think Cosmic is correct- I can't locate it now, but I visited a website a while back that actually showed how it could be accomplished.

The U.S. half dollar is 30.61 millimeters. The Mexican eagle is of a 1980-92 design and probably a ~32mm 20 Pesos (1980-84) or ~29.5mm 200 Pesos (1985-86).

I am beginning to think that this is a cast fake - why someone would go to that much trouble to cast a 50 piece is beyond me. Thanks to all for the responses.
