Although bad, it's definitely not that bad. The photo shows most of the card, and, more importantly to most, the cert #. If this had been a raw card, yes, it would have been unthinkable. This card will still sell for somewhere around $200 as it always does. Someone may get a good deal because of it, but with a card like this, it will always sell.
It actually doesn't look like a bad card, but I agree...I wouldn't bid on it if I couldn't see the whole card. It's probably okay, but maybe the holder is slightly damaged (along with the other end of the card)?
Usually people crop out the part of the card they don't want bidders to see, leading me to think it's badly off center or there's bad print marks on the hidden edge. But there's no qualifier and the border on the other side looks OK for centering. It'll probably go for well under book because of the image and the question it raises; too bad for the seller.
<< <i>Would you like to make a wager on that? I would be willing to bet that this card sells for over $185, regardless of the horrible photo. >>
It could sell for $225 and still be well under SMR. But I don't think it will top $200 because of the concern over that that hidden border. Which may be unfounded, but potential bidders will wonder "Now why did he photograph it like that?" And somebody will get it for at least $50 less than SMR and hopefullly will be very happy when it arrives.
As for a wager, you can have my 100-count snap box of Lou Merloni rookies if I'm wrong.
Nice Schmidt of your own, BTW. That's about as good as the centering gets on that card!

I sort of like the "sideways" scan of this card - here's mine:
