Les Royals de Kansas City vs. Les Expos de Montreal

Well, my beloved and struggling Royals are taking on the struggling Expos starting tonight. It may not be the most exciting matchup, but it reminded me of one of my favorite newspaper articles of all time. If you love the game of baseball, I think you will enjoy this article. Check it out.

    Great article!

The whole Expos situation is a shame, really. Quebeckers are NOT bad baseball fans. Indeed there are probably as many youths playing ball in summer as hockey in winter (Eric Gagne, anyone?).

It all comes down to a crappy stadium in a crappy location with a crappy management team doing a crappy job of marketing the team to a population they have written off as non-supportive.

    Great article knop-

Gotta disagree on the "not the most exciting matchup" part - Greinke is going tonite --- gotta love that young guy.

Maybe see you at the K sometime

    Dallas,

I will be at the K tonight to watch Greinke. Every Royals game is exciting to me. But I was referring to it not creating much excitement outside of KC and Montreal.
  • I'll be at the "K" for the Cardinals game on Saturday the 26th.
Best of luck to your boys!

    Thanks Ben,

I'll be there the 25th for sure. Don't know about the 26th or 27th yet.
  • Wow, that article seriously brought a tear to my eye and I've often thought about what I'll do after the Expos leave. I mean I'm still going to cheer for them wherever they end up, but I've been following them religiously since I was 12, way back in 1985! The ballyard in Montreal really isn't that bad, I mean to me it's just as nice as the Skydome. I really think it's because they keep talking about how bad the stadium is, they really do. I mean, would you eat something if someone took a bite out of it and said it tasting like crap and then handed it to you?
It'll be a sad day when they go, but they've really got to be put out of their misery with these ridiculous road trips. At least I can still always love to hate the Yankees, it makes me feel all warm inside everytime they loose!

Yeah, I saw a game there once, and I enjoyed it. I think it was before you were a fan though. I could be wrong but I think it was early 80's. If I remember correctly, the subway dropped us off right below the stadium. It was bat day and the gave us full sized bats! I even still have the ticket stub around somewhere. I think Steve Rogers was pitching that day. Gary Carter was still there. The Expos won the game in the 10th or 11th inning on a bases loaded walk! Nope, I was wrong. It was 1989. I just found my ticket stub in the same place it's been since we drove back from Montreal. In "Getting Along in French". A book my great uncle who lived in Montreal gave for the trip back to KC. I can't believe it's still in there. It was against the Padres. I've still got the bat too, but it's in pretty bad shape, because I used to use it in pickup games and batting cages.

As for the Royals, I went out to the stadium tonight to watch Greinke. He's everything they say he is an more. His control is incredible and the range of speed on his pitches is equally incredible.
