Post two or three pics of coins that you are particularly happy to own. Here's mine in no particular order:

I've never seen a finer 54-P:

Twenties S Lincolns are usually poorly struck? Huh?

Too bad PCGS doesn't certify these in their holders:

Gosh Kaj! That is one nice 1913! And 1915 (ms64?). It is impossible to find a nice ms64 1915 like that! Wow! I had to give up and pay the money for an ms65 to get a nice one. We should combine all our pics and put together a Lincoln Cent Gallery!

The 1913 is a 65.I think the weak strike on the reverse keeps it out of a 66. The 1915 is a 64. That carbon spot kills a MS65 grade. The 1925 is a 66.
    David,
I have to go get my 54-p from the bank. It's a good one.

    haletj,
    What grade is the 26-s?

65rd -- I love this one ! Last time my Red Sox won it all !!! image

Yeah, go Red Sox! I'm from MA originally! The 26-s is a 64rb. Grade means nothing though it is so nice! Same thing though, carbon spot hidden at the hairline keeps it from 65. Just a tinge of brown or even only a darker red keeps it from red. I wouldn't ever consider upgrading to a 65rb unless it was just as red, nor a 64rd unless it was just as close to ms65. What carbon spot on your 1915? Behind the head? And gosh, I don't see much problem with the strike on the 1913! Myabe just ever ever so slight weakness. Nice 1918 too.

The one right next to the 5.

I always wanted to send the 1913 back in.

Gosh, that is tiny. That would keep the coin from ms65? I think I've seen ms66's with carbon spots that small. f anything was wrong I was thinking your 1915's luster wasn't quite gem luster, but still not bad.

  • haletj,

I'd have to see that 26-S in person, but from the pic I'd send that sucker back in.

The 26-S IMO is RB but just marginally. Nice coin, especially with the strike and luster that was probably a real steal in an RB holder.

I agree, but it sure looks better than a 64, or at least most that I've seen. I don't think there is anyway that PCGS is going to hand out a 65RD designation, except for an absolutely "no questions" coin. I do think the coin looks like it has a shot at 65RB, which would be well worth the resubmission.

Jack, agreed on the 65RB shot for sure, i thought it was a 65RB and a nice one. It has, IMO a 66 strike. Crack the sucka!

Clack and Jack: Well, it's hard to see in the pic but there is a spot in the crevice of where the hair meets the forehead, but it it isn't that dark and is almost as hidden in person as the pic. At least right now I doubt it would upgrade though because of that. The reverse is gem+ and pretty much full red. The obverse looks red at first glance, but if you put it next to my red 27-p for example, you can tell it has a slight darker tinge. The luster and strike are as nice as any other Lincoln I own! I bought it from Marc when he got his full red coin (which he said looked half as nice). Marc bought it from Ira Stein a few years ago. We both payed pretty strong premiums but nothing like what 64rd's or 65rb's go for. Anyway, I don't care about its grade anyway, for it'll just stay in my set longterm. It is one of my three favorite coins in my set along with my 17-s and 19-s.
  • Jaime- As you already know....I sent it in a few times...with no luck. Anyway it was truly my favorite coin that I have ever owned...and you are lucky to have it....as I needed the money for the 64RD. Marc

    JrG, Nope not full bands.

    LCM, Yep all micro!

I saved the file about the size of a poster, and I am thinking of having it printed at a camera shop as a poster. The coins sit in a safety deposit box, and it would be fun to look at them now and then.
