I'm waiting for information myself on this thread. Figured some of my "friends" from the boardimage might be fighting over who wants me to stay with them.

I think Frank would be a good match to stay there. They wouldn't want me around with all those "thingsimage) they would be looking at. You know, those guys with the parts on the side of their heads.

oreville mentioned he found a place about 10 miles from town that was a 3-star and pretty inexpensive and he said people can PM him for the specifics if desired. If you want to be within walking distance, your choices are the Renaissance Pittsburgh, Omni William Penn, Ramada Plaza and the Hilton. The Sheraton Station Square is a short cab ride (or a couple of minutes by the light rail system).

I'm sad to say that driving in Pittsburgh is pretty tough for tourists because of the myriad of bridges, tunnels and hills, so I generally recommend one of the above.

What I call "walking distance" might be too far for some people. I hear that a lot.

I just got the William Penn for $89 per nite on Priceline.

Edited to add: it's 4 stars in downtown.

    what is the William Penn?

any scoop on it? how close?
  • FC57CoinsFC57Coins Posts: 9,140
Goose - it's a 4 star hotel and from what I can gather it's only 4 blocks from the show.

The William Penn is one of those "grand hotels" that every downtown has. It's a very nice place, and I would say it's about a 10-minute walk to the show from there. Might want to ask what parking costs.

Here's the scoop for me............Wife is going to see if she can find a sitter (grandparents) to take all 3 of our kids. IF she goes........she and I will probably arrive Early on the 19th and leave on the 20th after lunch.

If she doesn't go.............I will be looking for smoeone to shack up with at a nice hotel for at least the 19th and 20th.

I might know smoething later this afternoon.

Anyone heard of the Renaissance Pittsburgh? That's where Priceline has me shacking up in.

    Party at the Renaissance!!!

Here are the 3 hotels the ANA site is recommending for the money show:

Westin Convention Center Distance from Event: 0.50 Blocks
Attached via skywalk to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center

Omni William Penn Distance from Event: 4 Blocks

Hilton Pittsburgh Distance from Event: 10 Blocks

Fifteen minutes north of the city is Cranberry, PA and is loaded with relatively inexpensive hotels from Red Roof to the new Marriot (which ain't so inexpensive). Gotta have a car though.

According to the ANA site and the Westin webpage, there are no more rooms available at The Westin Convention Center hotel.

Correct, except it's more like 35 minutes from downtown. (It may be only 15 minutes from the northern edge of the city itself, though, because by then you'd already be on I-279 and it's all highway.) For anyone looking for hotels beyond downtown, consider the brand-new Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh-Southside. They have a free shuttle within 5 miles (would include the show location). The Southside is kind of a cool historic/eclectic neighborhood - lots of small shops, ethnic restaurants, bars and coffeehouses. It's the kind of neighborhood where you go into a bar and see people in suits sitting next to people with piercings and tattoos.

Also, Monroeville/Wilkins Township (east of downtown right off of I-376) has some hotel choices which should be cheap, and it's no farther than Cranberry.

Probably so, don't know if you could tolerate me though. We have many of the same likes and DISLIKESimage. I was thinking more along the lines of somebody that lived in the area. I thought you did. You know... invite me to stay with the family, home cooked meal, meet the wifeimage

Keep in mind that those who fly in to Pittsburgh would want to stay in a downtown hotel so that a car rental can be avoided.

The ones who drive to Pittsburgh can be more flexible especially if not carrying much in the way of coins and supplies.

    Now what about the food?

Thursday: Breakfast is included at mt hotel Lunch? Dinner?
Friday: Breakfast is included at my hotel. Lunch is on PCGS. Dinner?
Saturday: Breakfast is included at my hotel L? D?

Help me fill these in with freebie dinners at the auction houses so that I can show my wife how much money I can save so that more $$ is available for the coins!!!! She will be impressed by the generous (and free) cold refreshments Heritage has in their auction viewing room.

Yes, she is coming with me. You all know orevilla??????? image

In case anyone is flying into Pittsburgh for the first time, you may be surpised at how nice the airport is. I fly frequently and find myself in Pittsburgh quite often. I don't know what the airport is like on the outside since I'm always between legs, but I will say that the airport is one of my favorites from the inside.
