I don't have a feel for how they are looked at, ugly or what?

  • I like the reverse of the quarter and the half. They are strong symbols of American history.

I always liked the Spirit of 76 theme thats real Americana but the one dimensional looking Independence Hall building on the half does not impress me much.

Always liked the quarter. Had a few thousand of them at one time in the early 80's.

It was a nice changeup and I'm still a bit fascinated with the quarter

I was never a big fan of the half dollar design, but I do like the quarter. image

I'm curious...since it is a done deal....why ask if it is ugly?
I can understand thinking it is ugly...or nice...or not caring....(I am in the latter part) but, it isn't like anything can be done about it.

I think the drummer guy is one of the best reverses ever, I like it. The building is OK...

Buildings make for dull coin designs.

  • Ulgier than a SBA.

Come on now, that is pushing it a little bit don't you think??

I have always thought that the "drummer boy" reverse on the quarter was the best of the three bicentennial designs. The Independence Hall on the reverse of the half dollar is OK, but looks a little wooden; it has no life.

Pulling either of these designs down to the level of the Suzie B. dollar is an extreme overstatement. When comes to ugly, Suzie B. is in a class by hersefl.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Not if you are comparing reverses, in my opinion. The SBA reverse is cool. I like the Earth in the sky as the Eagle is landing on the Moon.

The qurater has a much better design than the half, but both were good. What about the Ike?

The quarter one, with a high quality strike or in dcam, looks great.

Not if they are done right. The real key is to use an oblique view and usually with a bit of an upward view. Too many designers want to depict them with a straight on view which does make them look flat and dead.

Personally, I've always loved the symmetry of the Half Dollar reverse.

The drummer boy was the winning design which is why it was placed on the quarter.
I've never been a big fan of either the quarter or the half but the dollar design is in-
teresting. My biggest problem with the quarter is that the coin wears very poorly. The
face often becomes grotesque and the overall appearance is poor. Even unc specimens
usually lack much detail on the central design.

To further what Conder said above, a good example of what he's talking about is the Washington half dollar commem reverse of 1982. That view (looking slightly upward from below) is much better than straight on. image
