Since when did Babe Ruth sign his name like this?

To me it looks like "G. H. Ruth?" I have seen enough of his autographs before signed as "Babe Ruth." So how rare is this authograph? I have never seen anything like it before.

  • George Herman Ruth. He signed checks "G H Ruth" and a lot of legal documents and contracts. I always like "Babe Ruth" signatures more, but it's still a cool card IMO.

As Brian has told you, this is the only way I have ever seen the Babe sign a check.

I have seen plenty of checks on eBay signed like this without his nickname.
  • George Herman Ruth is his real name...Babe was a nickname. All legal documents, like ours, are signed with legal name and signature.

I'm still amazed at the market for "1/1" cut signature cards.

This card brings up a situation. Has anyone collected this set, the Topps Tribute where this card came from? I was wondering if there are any more Ruth cards like that, sans auto. One of the dealers at my local show has a Ruth card and another, I think Cobb or Speaker. It has the same picture on the front, and on the back there is the COA saying "Congratulations, you've got an autograph from blahblah." But the front has no cutout for the auto, and no auto. He says he's called Topps to ask what up, and they said something like,"Oh that's odd, please send the cards in and we'll send you a replacement." And he balks because who knows what they'll send him, certainly not Ruth and Cobb autos. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else is familiar with oddities like this.

same here. it always cracks me up when people pay $2500+ for those Mantle Sweet Spot cut baseball autos. especially since you can get an entire autographed ball for 1/10 of that price
