My current icon is too... well... British considering my new location. How's this one?



It's from a 1913 Zwei mark piece.

Eagle with snake is typically associated with Mexico. Germany is more just eagle.

Here are a couple of more tests using the same coin. Along with the Goetz medal it's all I have in this country. But I think I may pick up that Westfalia inflation notgeld piece or the 1901 Zwei mark piece commemorating the Königreich. We'll see.

Niether of them really says Germany. I think the Westfalia would be a good choice.

I think it will be more cool if you will stay with your old icon, as I really like it and it doesn't matter there is your current location!

Nice BU coin with a small error on the right wing.

I like that eagle/snake cameo you made. I think it'd be a decent icon without the black square border.. it's too confining for an eagle. (The snake is supposed to be France, I believe)

Some other relatively cheap modernish german coins that'd make good icons... The one with the Kaiser in uniform, 1913-15?, might make a neat cameo (the uniformed Kaiser on the DOA coins are cool too). Most of the Weimar commems are neat too, but of an altogether different style. Some of those are pricey, but good repros are always in junk boxes at shows if you really want one as a subject. The Kiautschou coins are really cool (and I still haven't bought one! )

Hmm.. beyond those, and without getting into modern stuff, the choices are limitless! Plenty of medieval coins would give that germanic feel and make nice icons. No, wait, one modern.. the old 5 mark piece might work, maybe a later date proof (the early ones are €€!)?
