How can I tell if I was high bidder at the Heritage auction?

Was my bid highest on a lot or did a floor bidder simply match it?

I hope I was high bidder and I'd like to pick up my lots at Long Beach tomorrow, but I don't know who to call. Can Internet bidders even pick up there lots at the show?

  • I was wondering the same thing, except I won't be there tomorrow. When the Internet bidding closed, I led on 5 items. I expect to lose a couple, but I really do want one of them.

Ever since I heard of a member's Internet bid being matched (not beaten) by a floor bidder, I don't trust Heritage that much any more. I wonder if I should drive down to Long Beach to see if I won or just wait to hear from them.

I would wait. I doubt they would give you the coin in person because thet have no way of knowing for sure that you are the person that bid on eBay.
All Heritage would have would be your eBay user id and email address. Both can be found on eBay.

They might be able and willing to tell you if the winning bid on the lot was placed thru eBay.
They will be holding another auction today at 9am pdt so they might be busy if you go during the auction time.

I would wait I was high bidder on Heritage's site and eBay live showed the winner as a live floor bidder with the same bid as the current high bid on heritage's site which was mine ( not my max bid either and no eBay bidding for me this time ) I called Heritage to pay but they still did not have the final information in their system yet. The guy was going take my info anyway and write it down on paper. I told him I'll wait until they get it all straight on their end before I pay.

I checked "My Bids" at the Heritage site, and although the final info wasn't posted yet, each one said I had been outbid.image

Well, whaddyaknow? They finally posted my results. I won two 1875 German marks for my world 20-cent-piece-equivalent collection. image Yes, I know the lower one isn't really "UNC".

BTW, I bid through Heritage's site, not on eBay. I have purchased from Heritage before, but I've never tried to pick up my coins at the show. Will they let you do that if you were an Internet bidder?

I got my marks yesterday. They have much more luster than the Heritage scans show.

I got the final sale price info today, and on three items I was back bidder - 1 increment below the hammer price.image A good example of why floor bidding is best - now I'll never know whether those buyers were at their limits, or if I might have won any of the lots by being there in person.image

On one multi-coin lot, where I was really only interested in one coin, the hammer price was double my bid, but I pretty much knew that one was hopeless going in.image

I understand a Ouija board can prove much more helpful than Heritage's online bidder services. image
