1953-55 Dormand

Hello,

I was just wondering how rare of an issue are these cards? I looked for them on 707's web page and I did not see any. Any help with ballpark figures would be appreciated. Thanks.

I saw a bunch at the Hollywood Park show yesterday- someone had the Hodges (I'm betting Blech) and Marty Pritchard ("marty" on this board) had a stack. Sorry, didn't note prices.

  • Griffins or anyone else,

I just bought a Mantle 1953-55 Dormand and I was wondering if 41 dollars was to much for a PSA6 copy? It does not matter if it is because I really think it looks nice and it is going in my set registry but I was just wondering if anyone knows.

    Thanks,

How can you go wrong paying $40. for a 50 year old Mantle?

  • Well I was just a little suspicious when it only went for that!!! I very rarely have gotten what I perceived as a deal on any Mantle but maybe one other. Thanks.

  • 1953 PSA 7 Mantle PC's usually go for $100-$125. There are 3 variations though, one of which sells for a little more. I believe it's the bat on the shoulder stance (not sure). Anyways your $41 purchase for the PSA 6 was a good buy.

That reminds me about a Johnny Bench rookie I had for sale at my store many years ago. It was a nice looking card but had a crease in it. So I priced it accordingly to the Beckett guide, maybe mine was at $35 or so, when nicer NM copies were selling at $200-$250. A guy looked at it in amazement and said it was priced too low, so it must be a fake. I showed the crease and explained the pricing structure, he just shook his head stating he's seen worse priced much higher, so it must be fake. When he left, I started shaking my head...jay
  • I have never even seen a PSA 6 of this cardimage

The SCD bible has nrmt $125.00, but I think that this is low for a Mantle from this era IMHO.
There are three different Mantles in this set, but this should be the only one that gets graded. One of the others is 6" X 9" and the other is 9" X 12".
  • Thank you all for your responces.

    Marty,

In the Master set for Mantle is has two Dormand cards listed one is the "bat on shoulder card" (which I have seen in a SGC holder and the other is the one you have pictured (which is the one I won and listed as "batting stance"). Is the card you have pictured 5x8? I have also seen the 9x12 one matted and the seller was asking 999.00 WOW!!!

I apologize for bringing up this ancient thread but I have been doing research on Dormands and cannot find much. Maybe I am just not looking closely I guess. Does anyone have information on these cards? checklists? pricing?
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
