It must be a full moon??? wierd stuff

It must be a full moon??

I have had 34 items go off on ebay the last two nights. Most of the items happened normal.... email out, Paypal in and easy communication with the winners.....but I have had wierd stuff happen on two of the winners.

1) A winner on one card has emailed me four times asking for my address and total amount due. I have emailed him four times with the information. The last email from him included my email to him with all info yet he asks me for my info as if he doesn't have it, yet it is right there on his email to me?!?!

2) Another winner of one card Paypals me with payment, not once but twice. I notice the dupe payment, so I refund his second payment through Paypal and also send him an email telling him about the refund. So, his response to my refund is to pay me a THIRD time through Paypal?!?!

I have never had either one of these happen to me before. Both buyers seem to be legit and have a fair amount of feedback. My next step is to call them since I don't seem to be getting anywhere with emails, etc.

Just thought that I would share this unusual ebay happenings. Any thoughts on this from anyone?

Weird stuff? I thought you were going to tell me that a Mariners' starter had reached the seventh inning and that the bullpen had held the lead. Now that would be weird.

    Vargha,

What would be wierd is if the Rangers did that...
  • Along the same lines, I've had two PayPal payments in the last few days that did not generate an email notification to me that the payment was made. Many others generated the usual payment email. I routinely check my Ebay Items Sold list and that is where I noticed the two payments that I didn't get an email for. Anybody else experienced this phenomenon recently?

Yeah, PayPal is slow in confirming payments today. It normally just takes a few seconds to get the email.

I am having the same experience with Paypal.

By the way, when e-bay auctions end at night, why do people Paypal before I send out totals? (I send notices within 1/2 hour of the end of all my auctions). Do they think I'm going to head right to the Post Office at midnight? Many times these Paypals have wrong amounts.

Joe -- Some people just want to be prompt payers. Many auctions list the total shipping charges and so coming up with the total bill is no problem.

I had a bidder that would not pay or respond until the
Non-Paying Bidder notice was sent, then he immediately
paid via paypal, but shorted me $1... (total was only
supposed to be $5, he sent $4) I almost didn't even
catch it, but when I did, I refunded the payment and
requested the correct total be sent... and of course,
so far I have heard nothing.
    It is so annoying!

Big Kid - it takes all kinds, and if you hang around ebay long enough, you'll experience the sublime joy of dealing with most of them!image

Joe, good question. Personally, I like to wait until I get either an Ebay invoice or a confirmation email from the seller before sending payment by PayPal or otherwise. The ones that get me are the ones who don't bother to send ANYTHING to confirm the total amount.

For those who send an immediate PayPal payment, I think they are simply trying to clear their inbox of "Things To Do" so they won't inadvertantly forget to pay somebody.

I've been having problems with Paypal for a couple days , haven't tried it today however.

I'm guilty of this Joe as I like everything paid as soon as possible much like Scott mentioned but I won't send payment unless I'm sure of the total. On the other side of that coin, I had to email 1 seller twice requesting total for 3 auctions ( I knew he combined shipping but auction didn't say how much), it took 4 days for me to get a total. I just don't like doing things that way, it's very simple to list both shipping for 1 item and combined shipping for several right in the auction description itself. I'm not picking on you joe , just stating my preferences .

The 69 Perez I just received from you is a nice one.

I had it happen again last night. I got a Paypal from someone for 3 cards, which added up to nearly $900. I e-mailed him anyway (even though the Paypal was in hand) just to let him know what the combined shipping would be and that insurance was available through the USPS and the rate.

I never heard back from him (in all the time I've done this I've never had anyone call or e-mail to say hold the cards I want insurance but I e-mail them even if they've Paypaled because I want them to know it is available and the cost). Today, for the 1st time, the winning bidder called me to request that I add the insurance and offering to give me a credit card to pay for it. Unfortunately, I had already mailed his package. If he had waited an extra 20 minutes last night, he would have had the insurance.

Some people don't realize that as a Seller, once I have properly packaged the item and mailed it, the risk of loss shifts to them unless they transfer it to the Post Office through insurance. By rushing the payment, he lost the opportunity. Don't get me wrong, I want to get paid. But I'd rather people take the time to read the e-mail that spells all the options out.
