Congratulations to Marcalan and his Lincoln Cent Set!! Wow!!

I couldn't buy either of the big two I wanted, the 14-s or 23-s, but I believe I did get his 13,13-d, and 18-d! Most impressive by far was the 23-s, at about $5500!! I'm happy for you Marc, but argh!!!! I may never be able to get that date in red! Here's the 13-d I got. Did any other forum members win any of Marc's coins?

Since I am big in error coins, I wonder how much that 13-d is worth since it is dated 12-d :>

Congrats marc (hey I moved up a spot, you just delayed my demotion from the "big board")

That's what I thought too. It does look like a 2, but if you look closer it is a 3.

I used a 4x glass to check. image

I hate shadows. And my boost from Marc's set being deleted lasted all of a couple of hours.

I think it looks like a 2 also. I hope it looks more like a 3 in person! It's sad to see Marc's set gone.. but it is funny I think he forgot to delete his with varieties set! Gosh, his 64rd 28-s sold for $2500+. I guess bidders thought that was upgradable. Marc never mentioned anything about that coin being special.
  • Okay!!! Which one of you snatched the 1934D MS66RD from me at Long Beach????? image

I got to meet Marc Sicles at the auction. He may be buying a Lake House but he has not given up collecting. He told me he plans to collect Indian cents.
Now don't tell anyone because it is a secret image
I bought his 14 s in 64 red because it is IMHO a 65 red.If anyone wants it in a 65 holder then PM me.

You bought it Stewart? That was the coin I wanted the most but didn't think spending over $2700 was reasonable (er couldn't really afford any more than that)...Oh well. If you can't get it into that 65 holder I'd like to buy it from you someday! (Just curious, do you collect Lincoln Memorials? I've been spending a great deal of time looking through rolls and will likely (hopefully!) have some pop tops I hope to trade to someone else working on a 1909-2004 set for some early dates!).

Oh yeah: Edited to add Marc told me he already tried to upgrade the 14-s...and also the 13-d I bought... but they didn't work. He was successful on a bunch I think... his 09-s vdb, 09-s/s, 1912 and the 23-s of all coins he bought in a 63rd hodler!

Oh yeah, Stewart, did you or anyone else remember seeing this 64rd 15-s from the Donnell collection? What did you think of it? I bought it too. I won't see it for a while though as all my winnings I'm paying off slowly on the "take six months to pay plan".

  • Thanks to everyone who participated. Yes....I finally got to meet Stewart in person after talking with him on the phone a few times. The 14-S he purchased was definitely one of my favorite coins and was really hard for me to sell along with the 23-S (which is so difficult to find nice). The 28-S went for alot of money and I was definitely pleased with the price realized on that one. There were a few dissapointments...and I think there were a few deals to be had if you looked closely. The 09 was nice (Stewart said it used to be one of his). The 31-S went cheap (less than I paid by a large margin). I think the 21-S should have went a little higher. The 24-D went cheap...and I lost money on it after buying it in a Bowers & Merena Auction a few years ago. The later stuff went real cheap. The 51-S and 58-D went for half of what they should have gone for. Even the 1954 was super nice...and went cheap in my opinion. The one thing I learned was.....the really rare and/or really high grade stuff does the best. The common dates (later dates) or non PQ stuff generates little interest. Marc

Stewart- Got any PQ MS64RD Indians?

Even though some of them didn't do as well as you'd hoped. You can be proud of those coins. You took the time and the energy to put together a truely fine set.

I now have 6 coins that were once in Marcalan's set. Including the 25-s and 26-s that are pictured in the picture post thread! Anyway, good luck with IHCs!
