I really need to stop buying this card

1979 Topps Gordie Howe PSA 9

won another '79 Topps Howe PSA 9 tonight. i believe the pop in 9 is around 7-8, and i now own 4 of em. strange thing is, my winning bids have decreased with each new card i've won. i bought the first for $85, the second for $60, the 3rd for $51, and now this one for $34. i also own at least 9 PSA 8's. why on earth do i keep buying them? who knows, but at least now i've (somewhat) cornered the market.

I'd keep buying them at those diminishing prices. Eventually, you'll be able to unload them for a nice profit if the POPs truly remain low.

    JEB.

    Goodrid,

That's not a great nine. I hope the corners are sweet otherwise it looks like a holder buy to me.

These cards are tough in high end nines but I bet the demand will not outweigh the supply in
the long run. I see many more nines on the horizon especially if they look like the one in the link.
So even though it is Howe last regular issue I'd bet on the price leveling out with 'nothing-to-write-about'
    profits in the longterm.

So to answer your question: "You are buying them because you like them and love the issue and are crazy
    like the rest of us!"

  • i think that once the Howe Registry set picks up i will be able to sell them for a tidy profit. at least i finally realized i already own this card when bidding. i bought my second under the impression that i didn't yet own it.

it's not as bad as the time in the early 90's when i was putting together a hand collated '87 Donruss set. i picked up the Wally Joyner early on but never crossed it off my list. by the time i finished the set, i had bought something like 7 Joyners.
