What has PSA done for you?

i figured i would start a positive thread since there has been too much mudslinging recently.

what has PSA done for you? specifically, what good has come out of you joining the Registry and the message boards?

for me, participating in the Registry has helped me narrow my collecting goals down to a few specific projects, saving a ton of money in the process. when i first started collecting PSA graded cards a few years back i basically bought random cards. i really had no specific goal in mind. but since i discovered the Registry, i've been able to focus my collection on a few sets that interest me. i haven't bought a card "just because i wanted to buy a new card" in a long time.

i've also benefitted from joining the message boards. posting gives me something fun to do in my spare time, and the knowledge i've gained from other posters has been valuable. i've met a ton of great guys who share my collecting interests, and several collectors have helped me find cards i probably couldn't have found elsewhere, whether through trading or buying.

what about you?

PSA has been a great asset to my collecting habits! Number 1 is the Set Registry. It has exposed me to so many great Ryan collectors (thanks to the forum too) and made my hunt for Ryan's much more enjoyable. Learning from more seasoned pros ont he boards has helped me immensely too. I love learning about the history and background of our hobby and while websites are treasure troves of info, getting to rub elbows with "live" collectors is priceless.

Buying cards online has been a much better experience since I starting buying slabbed cards. No more crooked overgrading and that resulting horrible feeling that you've been left red and raw by an online charlatan!

Of course, PSA has also hlped me get my cards insured since their service is recognized by insurance companies as a true appraisal. And, the value of my collection has increased five fold since I started slabbing my nicest cards.

GR189... thanks for hatching this idea on the board! I look forward to reading lots of insightful responses.

They got me to happily spend $6 grading Phillies cards that otherwise would only be worth a quarter image

    they have..............

    1) they have graded my cards.
    2) they have sent these cards back to me via usps.
    3) they have sent me emails about threads being moved.
    4) they send me my SMR with I sometimes use and sometimes don't.
    5) they get rid of nitwits on the boards.

    they haven't............

    1) they haven't made me coffee in the morning to date.
    2) they haven't invited me and my family for dinner.
    3) they haven't asked about my vast and unbelievable $5K collection.
    4) they haven't called to offer me $1.50 grading fees.
    5) they haven't bought ebay yet.

  • PSA has made sports card collecting over the internet viable. Without psa (or their competitors) we wouldn't be able to safely buy on ebay or through the sports card auction companies without having to worry about the quality of the card, was it altered or trimmed, ect...

Card collecting is definitely much better because of psa. The ones most hurt by psa are the dishonest dealers.

    free lunch.
  • The biggest thing PSA has done for me has been to keep my checking account at a manageable level. Prior to PSA, I found myself having too much money to keep track of. With PSA (and especially the Registry), I no longer have to worry about that. Thanks PSA for all you do !! You are simply the best !!

Don't forget these boards too! Many of us complain about many things, but these boards are beneficial that many of us have made friendships, business contacts and sales w/ the help of the boards. I view the boards contstantly, it saves me from spending time w/ the wife, and for that I am gratefull. image = Just Kidding! She's OK some of the time! ...jay

PSA is great (as are the other grading companies)

Also I would like to thank PSA for providing these fun and informative forums. It is a fantastic place to come to to discuss light-heart subjects like card collecting.

    1) The registry. Not only is it fun to monitor your set progression and compare it with other collectors, but it also helps me keep track of what I need...like my own personal database.

    2) The forum. It's a great to post on this board when I need a card or two to finish my set. I have purchased many a card this well so having this forum has helped.

I really don't get upset that much with negativity. Honestly, sometimes some controversy makes this board exciting. As long as no lines are crossed (unfortunately lines are crossed from time to time) I can handle the negativity as well as the informative stuff.
