    common
A term used to describe a card that is not a rookie, semi-star, or star card. These are usually the least expensive cards in a set. “Singles” has also become a widely acceptable term for commons.

Technically, all rookies are commons, by that description. I was hoping for something a little more concrete. I can't see someone checking the cards in at PSA saying, "hmmm, Dallas McPherson is a semistar while Cole Hamels is a star - sorry, youc an't grade those, but this John Maine is definitely a common"...
