Etopps Customer Appreciation! LOL

Man etopps is really giving back to their loyal fans:

If you buy these cards for these prices:

Chipper for 4.50
Jeff Kent for 4.50
J Burnitz for 5.25
Mark Prior for 5.25
Matt Holliday for 5.75
Montreal Expos team card for 6.50

you get a Vlad Guerrero etopps card for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes that is right, if you buy all 6 etopps cards this week for 32.50, you get a free Guerrero card...LOL

Are these guys serious? Are people actually buying cards of Kent, Burnitz and Holliday in order to get
in on this? How stupid do the monkeys over at etopps think their customers are? Well, we will
find out when the release numbers come out on the Vlad. Should we tell them over there that Prior
is done for the year? naaaaa

How has eTopps done over the past few years in holding card value? Do they usually stay the same, go up or go down?
I know very little about eTopps and was curious if its a fad or here to stay. I know Stallin isnt a big fan, but I was curious about there overall structure, Is it solid or like a pyramid scheme, that soon everything will collapse and devalue...jay

there are spikes every once in a while, and that is when the etoppers come on and yell about how
great it is.....I feel that it is an increasing pool of cards fed by the same amount of money...and that
equal declining prices. I know there is a site that has the figures. Ill try to find it.

  • I started buying them for awhile last year, all of them seem to go down in price pretty quickly after the ipo, in fact I quit buying them and if I wanted any I would wait and get them on ebay at a reduced price. The only ones that seem like they have value are from the first year or two when not alot of people bought them so they have real low production numbers.

Mark Prior struck out 10 and allowed three hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings while making a rehab start for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs on Sunday.

PRetty much everything on the IPO's goes down immediately after. Though, there are some spikes. ie. Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony etc... Ming was good last year then fell off. Arod was big early this year then he dropped, I think he's about 50 cents above IPO price. Pretty much everything else drops at least 30% after the ipo. Even the Lebron cards for example, will be back down to maybe double IPO. The only cards worth investing in are usually the ones that are opposite. For example, you know everyone is going to by all 7500 Jeter cards, but maybe only 300 people will buy a Jeff Kent. Next thing you know, the IPO is over and only 300 were sold. Now you SELL, SELL, SELL!!

It was a good idea, just didn't work out quite as everyone had hoped. The first two years really fed the hype of the next two years and it's been dropping a little ever since. My portfolio is down about 60%. Very lame.
  • Joe failed to mention many of the other points of the customer appreciate week eTopps managed. Those active in the community got reward oints to use in an etopps catalog for conducting free card trades on their free trading post, another couple of points were available for starting and joining fantasy games played using their new fantasy program that requires some card ownership to play. In all I got about 6 points on the week - the points can get you anywhere from $.75 to $3 worth of cards in their catalog - 6 points could easily fetch $10 worth of their cards.

It is true a majority of etopps cards decline after they are released. You only have to be astute to the system to see when to buy at IPO like when Hank Aaron's classic was released last week - it cost 12.50 and is now over $35 but getting one was tough. Those are not common occurances...most cards sell for about $5 and if they get over sold or ordered they likely decline in value as low as a $1 or a $1.25 depending on the player.

The cards are truly great though - get one some time - the 02's are really cheap and they are still among the best looking cards out there. Don't let Joe's bitter disgust against etopps stop you. He simply is angry for having sold out too soon...the buyer of his portfolio still brags about driving the BMW thanks to old Joe...

I still track the portfolio I sold Ronin....it worth less than 200 bucks now! The joke is on you. I still
can't believe that topps is STILL taking your money! They haven't even printed any cards yet and you
    are giving them your money!

Speaking of classics...that was a great set! No Mantle, No Williams.....but hey who needs them anyways right.

You are a joke, but what makes you even more of a joke is to come over here at the worst possible time in
    etopps history!

I like how when my credit card on file with etopps expired they stopped sending me the IPO alerts but if they
have a survey on why they suck, or why no on buys anymore then send it to me. What a crock! Hey where is the
    money? Did Garfield eat him?

PS Go tell Steve to shove it!
  • I recently sold some of my original Etopps cards from 2001 fopr a very tidy profit, but other than that the newer ones all seem to go down in value.

<< <i>that topps is STILL taking your money >>

Topps had a nice size booth at the National w/ an abundance of the eTopps in full view.
I thought they were free samples, so I asked about one, and the guy said thats $25.00, but we have a special,
buy so many right now and we will register them in your portfolio for free. I told him hmnnn! I'll think about it.
Which I did, and I walked away. I thought it was a little tacky that they were selling cards like a dealer, intead
of just informing the public what they were all about...jay

I also thought that the eTopps booth at the National was a missed opportunity for them. Granted, it was likely the first chance that many had to even see what a physical eTopps card looks like, but the lack of any real computer setup or other methods to actually promote the online aspect of their product seemed odd.

If you knew nothing about them prior to seeing their booth, you would have assumed they were another dealer selling "very glossy" cards.

  • I just went on Ebay and looked under Etopps - Tony Banks since he is like the lowest one they "produced" with just 186 copies in circulation. I was shocked to see that with 4, 5, and 6 days on 3 different ones, they were already at $340-$350 a piece!!!

I'd love to meet the fools that are still pi$$ing their money away on this 3rd string QB for whatever team he is on now. I used to make the point even back when these things were hot. Why would you spend that kind of money on a bum lie Banks, when you could go out and get almost every 1/1 card that was ever made of him for the same amount as one of these cards? Probably alot less even.

What is the upside of these cards? He sucks now, and will more than likely not ever see another snap in the NFL. Even if you owned all 186 copies of this crappy player, that would just mena that you now have 186 pieces of, well.......CRAP!!

ETopps is a horrible, money making scam by Topps. They should be ashamed. Glossy cards of Aaron that have over 1,000 cards in production going for $35-$40 a piece? Why? Go buy the '04 Leaf Certified HOF cards that are all SP, and serial numbered out of just 500 for much less. maybe even a HOF card with a bat sliver numbered less than the ETopps. I still don't get it....

7 MVP awards, the single season HR record, career walks record, single season walks record, 700HR/500SB, and two batting titles near 40 years old. How can one argue that those aren't stats of the greatest to ever play the game??? All this and there is still more to come!!!! Bonds:2005 NL MVP. Or are you going to doubt him again?
  • In most circles if you buy a PSA 10 Maddux they give you those 6 cards for free.

keep in mind there is STILL no monitoring of ebay sales by etopps or ebay. There are group of collectors who
go around and bid on each others auctions keeping the "price" of banks high. The sad thing is, that these
collectors and maybe topps thought this would be good for the program, but in reality it showed many
real colllectors what a crock this program is.
