Scum seller on ebay question

I would like to know how you folks would handle this situation. In looking at some past 1953 sales I noticed an auction for a 1953 Jackie Robinson that is obviously a reprint. I will admit that the seller added the comment about it being an archives card on the last day of the auction. This card sold for $500 and I didn't even notice the disclaimer until the 3rd time looking at it. I wrote him an e.mail prior to seeing that and asked him;

"Are you selling all the 1953 archives cards as if they were originals on purpose or is this a mistake on your part?"

His reply: "Read the description of the item in question. I never said it was original."
Me: "You did not put that in the Jackie Robinson description until a few hours before it closed. You are a deceiving cheat. You know that archives card is not worth anywhere near that dollar amount."
Him: "If you are and intelligent people you can read and see that in the description, I put
that it was and Topps Baseball Archives the Ultimate 1953 Series, I can't put all the
information on the tittle because the space is not enough."
Me: "I will just make sure I let any bidders know what you are doing."
Him "If you are not going to buy my item don't fugg(Fugg was not the word he used)!! I put whatever I want to put in my things. If you don't liked don't see it."

I have sent an e.mail to the buyer of the Robinson card, but I would like to do more to this seller. Should I continue or just let it go?

No doubt, this guy is lower than dirt. He is hoping to catch some less-than-sharp-yet-impulsive bidder into his BIN trap. He did post the archive "disclaimer" before the BIN was used, so shame on the bidder for not reading EVERYTHING before sh1tt1ing $500 out of his arse.

I would let it go. If the buyer has any stones, he'll make enough of a stink to give this guy trouble in the long run.

But, if you have the time, sending emails to his bidders would certainly be a fun experience in reflecting frustration back onto this turd of a seller!

I would worry about the legal ramifcations of disclosing potentially fraudulent activities in this hobby.

I just sent him this email:
How come you have such a high price on a Topps Archive card that is only worth about $3 bucks?

It seems that you are trying to purposely decieve people into thinking this is a real 1953 baseball card when it is not.

We will see what he says....

    huh?

are you saying we should NOT point it out
    when people are dishonest?

Not at all. I applaud those who have the stones to point out injustices and I believe these forums to be our best source for policing illegal and unscroupulous activities in this hobby.

I just thought a warning was in order in light of all the recent threats of lawsuits.

This seems very misleading in deed. Can't this be brought to the attention of ebay or is that a waste of time?

That seller is definately scum-of-the-earth! His own special section of hell awaits his arrival.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • In the old days, people like this guy would get a public tar and feathering.
  • The dumb buyers probably think their smart ripping off dumb sellers, but then get all mad when they find out they get ripped off later. Their greed is almost as bad as the seller suckering them and they will continue to get ripped off until they wise up to the harsh realities of life.

I think it'd be a waste of time Mike. He's not breaking any rules, he's just trolling for idiots. It would be akin to me listing my Ryan rookie for $10,000 because I think it's worth that much. I think he's trying to be extremely deceptive though. He needs people to post feedback specifically citing his M.O. (something like: "Seller listed a $3 card at $200 leading me to believe it was an original issue not a reprint. I got suckered. Don't you."). That may be the best way to scare off his stooges.

So in other words, one of us should win one of his auctions and post the neg. Who's willing to take the NPB and the NEG for the team? image

    Yeah, I can't... I'm busy. image

This guy is a sleazeball. I did this same sort of thing to a guy that was selling all the fake Gretzky and Jordan reprints. I emaied him and every winner of his auctions in the last 3 months. He was even kind enough to send me an email thanking me for "stirring up a whole pot of $hit" for him. I thought that was nice of him. I wonder if he refunded any money, I haven't heard.

On the everthing goes around side - I bought a spammed Gem mint [PSA] card that was actually Gem grading - Kane04 ignored my emails and blamed the 'trimmed' card on the grading company - I sent it to Gem - no response - reversed the charge - finally Gem did pay me - contacted paypal to give Kane04 his money - they are jacking him around - I did nothing wrong - these purveyors of graded trimmed cards get very insulted when they don't get their way. Anybody feel sorry for this guy?

It's OK Koby. The only thing you can't point out is auction shilling by major sellers who brainwash their loyal subjects. Everything else is OK.
