Antietam Half - Question For Commem Experts

I was wondering why the Antietam Commemorative Half is more valuable than the average classic commemorative.

It must be more than just the low mintage since there are a few other commems which have had lower numbers. Is it because of the beauty of the coin? The historical significance?

Memorial Day had me thinking about all those men that lost their lives that day.

There were slightly more than 50,000 minted but 32,000 were melted due to lack of demand at the time.

There seems to be no other significant information about rarity other than the afore mentioned melting of 32,000 coins by the mint (According to Q.D. Bowers in the Commemorative Coins of the United Stated).
