Any pics of error coins?

Does any have any pics of lint marks on coins? I purchaced some 2003 and 2004 BU nickels and one of the (I believe) 2003 nickels has what I believe to be a lint mark on it. I'll try to post a picture of it tomorrow, but in the mean time, if anyone has a picture of one I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

It's likely just a very minor strike through

  • Ok, here is a picture of my possible lint mark nickel. The mark is right above the nose. If this is another type of error, please let me know. Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the picture quality...I only have a digital camera here with minimal macro capabilities and only the build in flash.

Can't really tell from here, looks like a scuff to me.

  • The coin is BU, so would that "scuff" be from the mint?

Yours looks like a roll-in. That is, something was on the sheet metal as it was being rolled to thickness before being punched into blanks.
  • How common is this? Is it worth anything if this is what it is?

It's pretty common on Morgan Dollars, apparently since they used to use wood chips to polish the blanks (?). I don't know about modern coinage, but I'd guess it has little to no premium. Still cool though. Hold on to it. (But only on the edge image)
  • Thanks for the info. Before I started collecting again, I got a 1960 something nickel with what looks like a die crack on the reverse. It is quite large. Almost extending the entire diameter of the coin and about 1 mm thick. It is really interesting. I have it at home tucked away...it may be worth something some day.

They used sawdust to clean the planchets on Morgans. It is my understanding that on nickels rolled in material is not common. But I do not believe it is worth a premium. I believe it's considered a distraction and can negatively impact the grade. However, I am not very active with collecting errors so I may be wrong on that one.
