Wishing everyone a Wonderful Memorial Day

As a career military officer and former enlistedman, I would like to take this time to wish everyone a great memorial day and my prayers go out to everyone who has served or supported our military, especially at this time. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to talk with each and every one of you.
For one day a year, it's not hokey to say
God bless the USA.

I'll second that!!..We'll be spending a few hours at the cemetary where my wife's father is buried....lay some flowers, remember and reflect. He was a vet from WWII Pacific Campaign....the WW II vets are getting on in years and are dying at a rate of over 1000 per day! So if you know a WW II vet..say thanks whilst you still can.

Well IMHO anyone that feels it's "hokey" to say God Bless The USA at anytime, should be booking a flight to somewhere else to live!!

I'll take the cards & flowers when I'm living and the BS when I'm dead!

It's a whole new world out there and sometimes I feel like time is passing me by. I know what you are saying though - a prayer for your wife's father. God bless.

  • I'd also like to wish everyone a wonderful Memorial Day.

My dad was a WWII vet and he served in France and Germany during the war (I'm not that old, I was born when he was 48!). I would personally like to thank every man and woman that still serve or have served in the armed forces to make this country free so i can do trivial things like collect little pieces of cardboard and basically do and live how i want.

Remember, there are still solders being killed every day to keep this country free.image

    God bless America

Mike - same to you. And let me agree with this: It is NEVER hokey to say God Bless The USA.

My father was a US Navy veteran who served almost 10 years during the era of the Korean War and beyond. The amount of respect we owe the many soldiers who fought and continue to fight for our freedom cannot be measured. Not only just today, we should remember the sacrifices, and be thankful for what we continue to have here in the USA.

I agree w/ Habs - The WW II vets are leaving us at an alarming rate. My dad enlisted in WW II at the age of 16, and was in the Navy, and saw a lot of action in the Pacific incl the Battle Of Tarawa. My wifes dad also served in the war. And his grandfather fought in the Civil War and was wounded at Gettysburg, they leaned him against a barn and figured he wouldn't make it to the next day. His name is on the PA monument w/ the other PA soldiers that fought there. Theres over 10,000 names engraved, the building/monument is huge.
My wifes 3 brothers all served in the military as well, so its no wonder that my kids feel that need to serve too!
My eldest, a Marine just got back from a month of manuevers at Thailand and called us late last night, so he is doing well. His younger brother plans on joining the Navy when he's done w/ high school in 2 years.
And to all those who fought for our country, past or present, I Thank You! ...jay

I was affraid of sounding sentimental but the people responding are very much patriots and I'm thankful for the kind words of support to our nation. I come from a military family and military service is synonomous with citizenship. I hope that never changes in this country.

Thanx for all the replies, as a Vietnam and Desert Storm Veteran, this is a very special day to me. Most important, I served because I could. NO ONE owes me anything for this service; I am proud to have served a career in the US Army. This is the way all my buddies feel.
Have a good day - again - I enjoy sharing all my thoughts with you - you are a great bunch of guys - ALL of you!
