And might I add, I would say that 50/50 odds are a bit generous. Wouldn't you agree? >>

    Greetings!
Remember I don't know you either, so this is a two-way street.
Also, I have no intention of selling them over this forum, again, because I don't know you. If I chose to do something like that we would have actually know each other in some fashion. It is one thing to solicite advice, it is another to act blindly.
You're skepticism is perfectly understandable considering what's gone down in the past. But I'm not asking you to buy, nor will I. All I am asking is how I can go about selling them to others. If I sell them to a forum member we will have to exchange adresses and phone numbers, and I will want to know who you are and talk with you on the phone, minimum. I don't want to get cheated or burned either.

Hey - How about giving this guy the benefit of the doubt? His ability to use this forum for pics, sig lines, etc. is not surprising. FuseTalk is all over the net! Now, as to the coins, I agree with many of you that based on the pics they're probably fakes. Of course, it's a buyer beware situation (as always), but maybe he's legit. Further, if he's trying to rip someone off, why come here, where knowledgeable people hang out? His best chance to scam is on ebay!

    Just my two-cents worth.

Mogadeet: If your grandfather had any Morgan Silver Dollars (1878-1921), please post photos of them as well. Thanks.

If you want to add some credibility just post a copy of the bank deposit record you described. It is a little difficult to imagine someone having a bank deposit box since 1942 that remained open for all these years after without anyone accessing it. Believe me if he had forgotten about it and stopped paying the fees it would have long been opened up and auctioned off.
  • If I wanted to sell the coins over the forum, a questionable decision at best, then I would start right there since that paperwork is part of the "Bona-Fides" of the collection. As far as your other speculations on it (payment, ignored, forgotten) those are your own opinions, as you know no other details and I don't recall you asking.
I prefer to do business face to face. When I was young we didn't have computers to do this stuff and we settled business with handshake. I still like to work that way.
As far as credibility, as long as you are properly raised adults you will answer good questions honestly and refrain from 13-14 year old child type flaming on posts. Other than that I really don't care what you think of me. I'm trying to learn something, I'm not trying to expand my social circle.
Let's conduct this like adult strangers, OK? Proper questions and honest answers.

Put the gold coins in flips and send them to ANACS 5 day service.
    www.anacs.com

Then put them on eBay when you get them back if you want to sell them.

To avoid being "ripped off" do not send the buyer the coin until after they pay for it.
If by check make sure the check clears first.
  • As stated in some previous posts, ever so often we will have some one come on here and jerk our chain, either just having fun with us or trying to sell. That's why we're skepticle. It's nothing personal.

I see a couple of offers to BUY his coins

But I never once saw him offer to SELL his coins.

Perhaps he knew somebody would try to rip a newbie on a rare date so I guess his plan was beautifully executed.

    Mogadeet -
Get your self a Redbook and identify what you have. Then the best advice is from Placid-

If the coins are fake (and I don't know that they are) then I would be amazed if Mogadeet doesn't already know that. I have yet to hear of someone coming into an inheritance of coins who doesn't at least take them to his local coin shop for a preliminary opinion.
  • Thank you!
Don't be surprised at what I don't know about coins. I can describe to you in detail the pros and cons of Cage Masts in U.S. Pre-dreadnaught battleships, but know nothing about coins. Nothing!
I'm getting a redbook tomorrow, and will be at the library Tuesday to get its equivalent for foreign coins. Remember, this is a surprise to me too.

As I stated in the other thread, I'll admit that I was one of the skeptics when MOGADEET originally posted. And when the same sort of thread happens again, I will remain just as skeptical.

HOWEVER, I'll keep my big mouth shut next time and keep my opinions to myself. I mis-spoke and I feel badly about it.

Let me be the first skeptic to apologize. I was wrong and I'm sorry for doubting you mogadeet.
