Need help identifying 1832 Bust Half

How do you determine whether the coin is a small letters or large letters type? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

  • Out of 23 possible 1832 Overton varieties, there's only one "large letter" reverse. That variety is O-101, which also shows a large die break on the left wing of the eagle. If you have a "large letter" reverse, then you have either O-101 or O-101a (later die state with the crack heavier). That's the easiest way to tell the difference, but there are other ways. The remaining 22 Overton varieties for 1832 are all "small letter" reverses. O-101 (large letter) is an R.2 variety and the later die state, O-101a, is an R.1 variety.
