Is there a place to look up a coin number (not cert number)

I was cmparing two registry sets and I saw someone with:

1986 3122 1C MS67RD 2 0

but in my set I have

1986 3124 1C MS67RD 75 15

where can I do a search and find out what 3122 coin really is?

    sonof*gunk,
as you probably know, PCGS uses a sorta sequential numbering system to identify the coins. In the Lincoln cent series they started with #2423 and allowed three digits for RD, RB & BN and three digits for each mint mark. So normally each date would jump 3 numbers. (ie) 1918 is 2504 and 1918D is 2507 and 1919 is 2513. By the 1980's this sequence was getting squeezed for numbers. Someone didn't allow enough numbers for the years 1986 thru 1988 and so #3124 was assigned to 1986 and #3121 was assigned to 1986D. Since no RB or BN coins were slabbed for those dates it can only be assumed what they would use. In 1987 they used 3065 and in 1988 they used 3103. Then, in 1989 they got back on track using 3077. In 1995, for the doubled die they used 3125 thru 3127 for BN, RB, RD.

So back to your question. What is 3122? My guess is the slab number was an error because it should be 3124 because it is a RD 1986. The number would normally refer to a 1986 BN, but none were slabbed. All this info is on the pop reports. Maybe someone at PCGS could confirm this for you. Steveimage

    Jerry,
Where do you see it on the Pop report? It is not in the date sequence and it is not in the number sequence. Any why would anyone try to slab a brown 1986 Lincoln cent? Steveimage

    Steve,
    It's another of those mysteries....
You're correct, it isn't listed in the normal order of things.
I had to go to the little box, and plug the # in, to get the numbers I quoted....

ANd, why anyone would send one in is beyond me. I say that, tongue in cheek, tho... You don't wanna know about some of the coins I've sent in for certification!image
