Oh great, and I just got the Mint to approve my other order for 10 sets.

So where is that cancel button!!!
  • Are they even high quality UNCs, or just run of the mill, ho hum, beat up UNCs?

The quality seems to be above par for all the coins

I can see the nickels making MS66 with no problem, and the dollar (sac) too.

    So the quality is there

  • I was under the impression the mint was not shipping these sets until 6-1.
Has anybody else received their set(s) yet?

According to the Mint, they started shipping on the 12th and backordered quickly. So, yes, people have them in hand.

The fed-X guy just delivered mine (first 5) to my office. Funny, I requested standard delivery, not fed-x. image I have only opened the shipping box, not the actual sets.

I guess I need to make a fast decision on the other 10 sets I ordered. Yes, they were confirmed today by the mint. Looks like it was a limit of 10 sets per order, not address.

Has anyone else looked at theirs?

I got my unc. and proof coins yesterday. I think the unc. has something going on the finish which looks a little like matte-lite. Both are very nice condition coins. The designs are very busy and complex when compared to recent commeorative issues. The detail on the standing figures is really sharp, as is the detail on the feathers and hands/cuffs on the reverse. Good, solid strikes. The design on the obv. did an interesting thing with the river and forest in just one band instead of trying to fill all the background with it.

All in all I like the coins better than I did when I just saw pictures of them.

Cancelled mine. I think with this news about the coins being "run of the mill" the Mint will be seeing a big cancellation of orders, and returns will start flowing in.

You guys cancelling the orders are making a big mistake. The Buffalo sets had no special coins in them either, and are still going for a lot more than issue price. There is no guarantee the mint will resell returned sets.

I agree, the interest from the general public is high, "special coins"or not.

My intent for collecting these was the possibility of having different coins (matte proof) than the circulating examples of some of the coins. If i can get the same thing in circulation, or by a cheaper mint UNC set, then why would anybody in their right mind spend $90 for them ?!?
Re-sale isn't the object of collecting.

I will buy a couple sets for $30 delivered. Anyone selling? image

There sure is a slug of them on ebay now. Most are "pre-orders" but there are a few indicating they are in hand. May have to wait and see where these end up.
  • Just received my C&C sets. So far I've only opened 1 set, and will wait to see if anyone finds suprises before opening any more. This is a description of the set I opened.
As expected the L&C Dollar has a sharp strike and is near flawless.
The Nickels would probably grade ms66.
The Sacagawea Dollar might grade ms68, it is that good.

I agree with Doug.....Re-sale isn't the object of collecting. However, the way I was thinking.....I bought 20 sets. I can probably sell 13 sets on ebay for what I paid for the 20.....this way, I keep 7 for free. I try to do that with as many mint products as I can. I add to my collection for free with only a little work selling and time taken going to the post office for shipping. By reading these boards, I can feel the distinct difference between the "true collector" and the "collector/speculator". I respect both types of collector. I hope many orders are cancelled/sent back for return :-). Art

You presume the mint will not just sell returns, like with other series.

A wise collector simply reducing their net cost. image

I bought 20 Buffalo C&Cs and broke even buy selling 7 sets. Sold the other 13 for gravy, then bought some superb British Victorian coins. Most have tripled in value since their purchase in late 2002. I'm happy! I think I'll sell them off when I'm tired of collecting; say, about 2025 image
