  • I will be bidding strong on that one, and if they offer the Ruben Kincaid In Action card I might have to sell the boat and car to buy it!

Can I ask a couple of questions?

    1) Where was the dad? Who was the dad? Was Rubin Kincaid the dad, but Shirley Jones didn't want the kids to know their dad was a Jewish manager taking 15%? Danny Bonaduce looked a lot like Rubin.

    2) How come none of the kids looked anything alike? Was there more than one dad?

    3) Was the young boy an idiot savant on the drums? I don't think he ever spoke in the show.

    4) Was there ever anyone hotter than Susan Dey in her little miniskirt?

    5) Why do tv shows we thought were sent from hell back in the 70s seem like Shakespeare compared to the crud on tv today? The worst Brady Bunch was ten times better than a good Friends. Batman and The Six Million Dollar Man beat the hell out of CSI-Name Any City. I just don't get it. Nobody fights Fembots, Sasquatch and has shag carpeting in their house anymore. Collars were big and so were the jokes. C'est la vie.

  • Did you know?: Ruben Kincaid is John Madden's brother in real life
  • And next time you see the Brady Bunch or Partridge Family, forget the plot and script, just listen to the background music and background audience laughs. Classic.

And tell me Mel Blanc wasn't a genious.

Hello, world, here's a song that we're singin', c'mon get happy
A whole lotta lovin' is what we'll be bringin', we'll make you happy
We had a dream we'd go trav'lin' together
We'd spread a little lovin' then we'd keep movin' on
Somethin' always happens whenever we're together
We get a happy feelin' when we're singin' a song image

All together now, c'mon get happy, c'mon get happy, c'mon get happy - those were the days - me and my brother in the basement 'blowing our brains out' and as clueless as the message on the bus - Mom yells down - "you better not be smokin any weed down there...because I know what it smells like" - mom was also clueless. C'mon get happy, c'mon get happy, c'mon get haaaappy.

  • Scumbi - So many questions about that family (the Cowsills were to the Partridge's what the Beatles were to the Monkees).

Dont forget that Chris (the Partridge drummer) also changed his appearance completely from a dark haired kid to a blond haired kid. Apparently the family didnt notice. And remember Susan Dey in those velvet outfits.....whew image.

  • Darn, I'm not old enough to enjoy this post anymore. I'm from the Saved by the Bell and 90210 generation. To me the Brady Bunch was a crappy out of date filler that TBS would play before Braves games when they won 60 games a season. I think TBS had the Partridge Family on for like one season in syndication, and all I can remember is that the family sung and they rode in a pschedelic bus or something.

Marcia Brady single-handedly built the hand cream industry.

She created family entertainment by locking teenager, father and grandfather to the little screen for a half hour every week. There was no VCR or TIVO. Be there or suffer if you want to get that little photo of Marcia in your head and run to the bathroom for neither one nor two.

The producers were fair to women too. They gave them Robert Reed who was secretly sharing their dreams of extended shoe shopping sprees.

I think the difference had to do with the stuff that was going on in the world at the time. There was still a Cold War going on, America had a middle-class and Nixon actually got what he had coming. Vietnam was ending, too. People wanted to make fun of the very conservative family upbringings they had growing up. The Brady Bunch and the Patridge Family didn't consist of the traditional nuclear family. Things weren't so serious. "Seen and not heard" was really obliterated during this time. The mid-to-late 60s was more "you can't see me or hear me if I run away".

There isn't much reason to laugh today. We know we are losing troops in Iraq. The stock market is a rollercoaster. And, most importantly, I don't think we understand how systems work. The good guy doesn't win all the time. People don't always get what they deserve. We were told that "in the long run" things would even out. We are seeing that isn't true. Our leaders are the best examples. They are weak and soft in character. We don't want vunerable people like ourselves, rather, we want men/women who are a cut above. I think Americans crave some kind of certainty today. Law and Order, CSI-Skid Row, reality shows like Survivor, etc... all promise an outcome. They pull a pattern from chaos. We can't do it because it doesn't exist, but television is fantasy. There are no applicable laws. Television should be listed in the same class as Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil. It's an anti-depressant.

Psychological studies show that rapid movement of the eyeball can lead to an improvement in depression. Hence, all the rapid cut movie and tv faire. Doctors don't know why this works. My theory is if you don't pay attention long enough for an image to make an impression you can avoid having to be depressed.

Sorry for the ramblings. Just wanted to throw some ideas out there and see what you think.

    Best,

    S.

All the more reason to see the cup as half full. Sometimes we are tested. Isn't that the reason that some people on the boards interject humor into their 'thread' of knowledge on sports collectibles?
From the feel of where this discussion has gone, I believe I am a little Partridge, Bonanza, Saved by the Bell, Seinfeld, Raymond combined into one. As long as there is always a tomorrow to look forward to, I believe I'm OK. And now to the not so serious, Jason - I think Kelly Kapowsky from the 'Bell' is HOT!

Here's the story of a lovely lady,
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls.
All of them had hair of gold, like their mother,
    The youngest one in curls.

It's the story of a man named Brady,
Who was busy with three boys of his own.
They were four men living all together,
    Yet they were all alone.

Till the one day when the lady met this fellow,
And they knew that it was much more than a hunch.
That this group must somehow form a family,
That's the way we all became the Brady Bunch.

The Brady Bunch, The Brady Bunch.
That's the way we became the Brady Bunch.
    Looking for:

As far as jaw droppers and drawer droppers go - I think it's tough to beat the revoling calvalcade of babes who lasted an episode or two as Kirk's love interest in the original Star Trek. Between the curves and costumes - way ahead of it's time. image

Dirty Harry has it right. Star Trek was half-interesting stories and three-quarters amazing young babes in velvet outfits cut an inch below their baby door. Just off hand I can remember the girl that played Batgirl, Joan Collins before she lost her estrogen, some chick who had tears that acted as love serum, etc... Even this Nine of Ten chick from the latest version is enough to make you get your beam up. There's some kind of promise in these futuristic shows that all ugly gals will be able to step into a chamber and come out looking like Halle Berry. I'm not sticking around to see how small the IPOD can get. No. I want to hang in until the plastic surgeons can take your average 80 year old grandma and make her look like the knockout in Pirates of the Carribean. If you haven't watched the movie, rent it. I don't know what happens. Something with pirates I think. However, the lead actress is the most amazing thing I've ever laid eyes on. I'd make love to her and step into a wood-chipper because once you hit the apex, why bother?
