Mastro is going to have a Classic Collector Auction

I just got this email from Mastonet. I think it is great, a chance to win some great items.

"By popular hobbyist demand MastroNet is proud to present our Classic Collector Auction providing an auction format with:
More affordable quality material (average lot value between $500 and $1,000).
An internet-only format utilizing MastroNet's real-time bidding auction system.
MastroNet's list of over 20,000 registered bidders, by far the largest.
MastroNet's unparalleled level of service and attention to detail.
MastroNet's industry leading advertising and public relations muscle behind every event.

The inaugural event will be held this Fall and will feature over 1,000 lots of quality material. We already have over 500 quality lots including:

Vintage cards, regional sets, wire photos, pennants, signed baseballs, etc.

If you have lots that may fit these criterion click here to go to the consignment page at our web site, www.MastroNet.com, and let us know what you have.

Happy Collecting!

Good News for Mastro and collectors. Bad News for other auction houses that specialize in those type of items.

they've done it before and failed.

Did they have a catalogue for such an auction?

I would be interested in them if you have any. The earliest Mastro catalogues I have go back to the Mastro & Steinbach days.

I think PC is referring to the weekly auctions they ended a few years ago. They suffered from weak offerings at times. Hope this one does better, but why pay 20% buyers penalty for stuff you can find on ebay. They've got to cut the commission rate or offer something unavailable elsewhere to make much impact.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

perhaps the idea is to avoid the supposedly "huge" cost of producing a catalog.

they were sending such lots to slaters or send them back to the consigneors in the past but they broke off the arrangment with slaters which I guess is why they willtry it themselves
