1979-S Type 2 Proof Set Results
I had a 1979 type 2 proof set that had an outstanding quarter and SBA.
It's always a dilemma whether to try for a 70 at PCGS. You have to hope it catches their eye so at least they’ll look at it under a loupe instead of declaring it a 69 in 5 seconds.
I sent the quarter to PCGS (still waiting for results) and the SBA and the rest to NGC (on May 6th). They didn't think much of the cent, but the SBA came back PF70UCAM
At NGC there are (now) 553 graded and it’s a pop 5 coin (0.9% of total)
At PCGS there are 1653 graded with 44 70DCAM’s (2.6% of total)
When you get a 70 back from NGC you have to wonder it would have come back a 70 at PCGS. In this case it would have been nice if NGC didn't allow those loosely graded PCGS SBA's into their registry.
Oh well, I’ll just be happy with my 70 at NGC instead of a 69 at PCGS.
The pop 5 makes it nice.
Such is life in the universe of modern plastic.
