Within the next year or two: a 1911-D quarter eagle, at least AU53. Strong D--not a weak one. I prefer one graded by PCGS, but I'll take NGC. At $5000 to $6000 a pop, I won't take chances with anyone else.
Within my lifetime, and hopefully in the next 5-10 years: A draped bust $5, at least AU and problem-free. That's draped bust, facing right, early 1800s or late 1790s--not the fat lady who took over later.
And yes, we all have those absolutely unobtainable ones. I rather like the very high relief pattern $20 that holds the number two spot among the all-time most valuable coins in the CoinFacts top ten, even more than the number one spot holder. But, I'd settle for any of them.
