1913-S Indian Ten Dollars gold Eagle in MS-65
  • garsmithgarsmith Posts: 5,894 ✭✭
Right now I just want a 1934-S Peace dollar in MS-63 or MS-64 grade at a decent price. Right now the only thing keeping my peace dollar set out of the top 20 is the 1934-S AU-53 that I have now. Maybe if the bears come out of the woods and get into the market I will get one at a good price.

  • It has been a while since I asked so I will ask again.

Has your dream coin changed or have you finally achieved your dream coin and moved on to other coins.

I was just wondering how time has changed (if time has changed) your dream coins..

    Salut!

  • How about a nice AU-58 1851 seated dollar and correctly graded... So far i've looked at ~60% of them in the grade and none fit the description image

Thanks for reviving this- I wasn't here the first time around...

Mine would be the 1923 Peace Dollar carried on Apollo 11 by Buzz Aldrin...

Just wait until the mint does a Peace Dollar commemorative in a couple years. They've revived a lot of others...it's just a matter of time.
    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!

Gotta admit it's a great design especially if they do it with a strong strike.

I'll take an 1802 half dime in any grade... but it has to be a "freebie" that I found with a metal detector in order to qualify as a dream coin!
  • I have dreamt of quite a few. Hard to say. But it would most probably be US Gold with a "17" as the first two digits of the date. image

My "dream coin" is one of the 1851 Augustus Humbert $50 gold "slugs." It seems that whenever I'm flush with cash I can't find one for sale and when I'm flat broke they're everywhere.

I would love to have the "ice cream" specimen 1894 S Proof Barber Dime. The story about the little girl spending it for an ice cream cone is so cool.

I haven't scrolled back through, but I assume over the years I've answered this question with four coins:

    (1) 1851 Seated Dollar
    (2) 1870-S Seated Dollar
    (3) Small Eagle $10 gold
    (4) $50 Slug

I have been very fortunate to be able to obtain numbers 1 and 2, now to work on number 3! image

Nothing worth selling my soul for. I would love to own a dang near perfect DCAM Flying Eagle Cent and same for a '59 IHC. They probably don't exist. Sitting next to my DCAM 1864, I think they would be amazing (see my avatar).

In all honesty, my dream coin is every coin in my set. They are like my children, and I am loathe to part with any of them.

    A 1794 silver dollar, that's all I ask....

A 1794 Dollar with an expensive hole in it.
  • There are dozens of coins on my todo list. All within realistic means. No holy grail one of a kind coin some king in saudi arabia has that ill never even see. Given that, there is only 1 coin that I literally had a dream about. The coin in my avatar. Ironically I missed out on buying it as I fell asleep while watching the countdown on ebay. I was the first bidder on it at the inflated opening bid, fell asleep thinking there was a slim chance anyone was gonna be willing to pay that moon money for it, only to wake up half an hour later to see I lost it by 5$ as i never got to put my snipe bid in for it. Had nightmares for weeks after losing on it as I had never wanted coin so badly and still have never matched that desire yet. Then had to track Rick Tomaska down and pay him 50% over what he paid for it. In his defense though it was for less than my snipe bid would have been and he was claiming on the phone that his max bid was twice the winning bid anyway. In any case I made him a 50% markup offer and he took it. But well worth it IMO. So that being said my shortlist is as follows.

    1921 Peace dollar nicely toned.
1936 Proof WLH and eventually the whole proof set(only set i want to put together along with the full peace set)
One of those fancy proof indian cents with nice colors, any date would do as i am a type collector
Gold Winged Liberty mexican 50 peso piece and a gold uruguay mil pesos coin which will be awhilee as im not touching gold at thes eprices any time soon
    Any 17xx Dollar in XF
