Is OJ Simpson someone we should have at the National?

I received this email and was wondering what everyone else thought!

Dear Fellow Collectors

I’m writing you today with a specific question and I need your help!

As you all know TracerCode, Inc. is the Autograph Pavilion supplier for the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland this year. We are committed to bringing the hobby’s most sought after autograph guests in the country. We have been approached by an agent that wants to bring in O.J. Simpson to our show. From a collectors point of view this person is a Hall of Fame running back with Buffalo and a 2,000 yard rusher plus many more achievements and under normal circumstances a great guest to have. Considering his past which is another matter, I need your thoughts.

Is OJ someone we should have at the National or will he be too disruptive? He could bring in several thousands of additional fans to the show or they could boycott it as well.

My question;

Should TracerCode bring him in or not!

If you have a comment, please send me an email to: sales@tracercode.com

If all you say is yes or no, it would be a great help. If you have any more to say please do so in your email or feel free to call 570-587-1675. Your thoughts will be kept strictly confidential. I will send you back the completed results if you wish. Please respond by June 1st, 2004.

Sincerely,

Bill Fleming CEO
TracerCode, Inc

NO! He lost the civil case and owes money to Nicole Brown's family and the Goldman family.

I sent an Email and said as much.
  • why not? oj was a great running back and was found not guilty.

If he is going to pass 100% of the proceeds on to Ron Goldman's family like he should, then yes. Otherwise, no.

He was found not guilty - and the moon is made of green cheese.

No way he should be there, he should forever remain a social leper.

I cannot believe they would even ask. If someone wants his auto bad enough they should go through the agent at a private signing. Nothing good could come of this.

  • The National is a family event. Its possible that a few families could boycott the show if they heard OJ was coming. I doubt anybody would boycott the show if they heard that OJ wasn't asked to be an autograph guest. OJ can sell his autographs on Ebay.

I doubt there will be many autograph collectors paying for OJ Simpson's autograph.. OJ will be no more than a spectacle at the National....almost like a circus act. I can just imagine parents pointing at OJ and telling their children that there is the man that was found not guilty of murdering his ex-wife and her friend.

Do not bring OJ SImpson to the National.

Back when he was released, he said the first thing he would do was find 'the killer(s)'. It's been 10 years now and he still hasn't found them. He should skip the National so he can keep looking for the responsible party. image

I wouldn't mind seeing OJ there if he were willing to do a test run on "Old Sparky".

The fact that they are soliciting opinions tells you that they already know what they should do ... but they're too chicken$hit to simply do the right thing from the start, preferring to instead see which decision would make them more money.

TracerCode should be embarrassed to have even sent out this "feeler" ...

The Cleveland Media would be all over it...and it would really take away from the show.

The show would receive pub....but not the kind it would be hoping for.

this comes as no suprise....i figured he would try to test the waters eventually. the investigation was a travesty and the trial was worse. the man belongs on death row not at a sportscard convention.

Looks like most people agree that murderers should be banned, but where do we draw the line ?

People still want autos from wife beaters, so I guess as long as you don't actually kill them, you're ok.
How about athletes that get caught cheating on their wives ? That seems to be alright too.

Also, what about athletes that take illegal drugs ?
Most people still want their autos, and drunks and gamblers seem to be fine too.

Yep, looks like our heros can do whatever they want EXCEPT for murder.
O.J., you crossed the line, so I have to tell you ... you're fired !

After reading all the respsones and giving this a great deal of thought, I've changed my mind.

I guess I'm firmly in the minority here. I would now like to see O.J.
at the National. In fact, I just sent him the following e-mail:

    Dear O.J. Simpson,

As a longtime fan, I am elated to find out that you will
be at the 2004 National for an autograph signing. I've
been trying to get your autograph for the past ten years
and for some reason you just haven't been that accessible.
I'm very much looking forward to meeting you and discussing
some great football stories and of course getting your
    autograph.

    Sincerely,

    Toppsgun

P.S. By the way, some guy named Mike Wentz who will
also be at the National, has been sleeping with your girlfriend.

    Good one Toppsgun.

When I said nothing good could come of this, it was really inferred to mean something bad may come of this.
