Photographing modern commems is DIFFICULT!

I was going for that DCAM look that Russ does so well with his JFK's - but it is not easy! The camera lens reflects off the plastic holder or the coin. I finally rigged up a piece of the black background and put a small hole for the lens to stick throuh

. Now all that shows is the dust particles inside the holder

DHeath - that's a great pic! I guess I need to get a little more light on my subject. Also, your pic looks just fine with the fields reflecting the camera, etc.

I use a black sock with a cutout for the lens. If there is white writing on the lens a black marker can cure that.

Just hold a black piece of paper above the coin for it to reflect off of.

Or you could do a white piece of paper for this effect.
