Off-center Indian Cent

Anyone know the rarity or value of an Indian Cent struck about 50% off center? A collector showed me a copper nickel one dated 1864. Very cool!

Veep - 5 to 10% OC Indians are fairly common, but 50%,well..... that's pretty rare. What grade was it?

Redbook says $55 for an off-center Indian cent, though of course that section on errors in the back of the book is simplistic in the extreme- it doesn't take into account dates, grades, or the degree of off-centeredness. Realistically, I'd say it would be hard to touch one for less than a low 3-figure pricetag. A copper-nickel O/C would certainly be worth more than your average piece.

I'd have put it in the XF45/AU50 range. I only bring it up because I don't recall having seen one before. The owner was quite proud of it.

A dated off center this far off in undamaged condition is a minimum high 3 figure coin. If the coin grades as you say, it is a 4 figure coin (to me at least). Undated would be worth much less.
