Buy a variety -- then someone puts a whole roll of them in auction . . .

How would you like to be the guy that purchased one of these Lincoln varieties recently for over $500, and then someone puts a complete roll of MS63-MS65 full red examples up for auction?

Here's the quote from the auction:

1956-D Dual Mint Mark D & S Northwest 1C Lincoln Cent BU Roll. WDMM-1, OMM-1. Traces of an "S" Mint Mark can be seen in the field between and below the 1 and 9 in the date, completely separated from the main "D" mintmark. The majority of the coins range from MS63 to MS65, primarily due to small marks and nicks, but are all full Red pieces with cherry-red to rich orange hues, well struck, lustrous and spot free. A elusive and important variety whose popularity should continue to grow, and already a highly pursued issue, with a recent sale of an example at a price in excess of $500. (#2839)

What is the grade of your specimen?image

YES, I'd be quite the ticked camper!

Edited to add: Was your's graded, and by whom?
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?

I don't believe one roll of these will kill the market for them, primarily because it can be expected that roll after roll of these exist SOMEWHERE...hundreds of thousands of these were minted, 50 of them wouldn't even dent the kettle. Expect this lot to go for at least $2 grand. I also don't believe the winning bidder will sell all of them in one shot. That would be almost as ludicrous as offering them as a full roll.

Believe me - if people knew what existed out there (including those in my collection) in some of the "rarer" varieties, they'd freak out. I have full tubed rolls of more than 100 different die varieties, many of which are quite scarce on the market. This auction was ill-conceived in terms of profit, but will soon be forgotten about once it's over. Don't sweat it.
