It's a 1913 Gold Sovereign. I think you know the rest of the story.

I only own two gold coins... (sounds familiar doesn't it) image

I'm not sure which i prefer out of the two...

I prefer my James II Half guinea i think in all honesty, but being all but Fine condition, many people seem to think it's nothing special. But these people have never tried to get a James II half guinea!

Thinking that my other gold coin would create more interest, and because i haven't had time to show GD it! buwhahaha, i thought i'd show my second favourite...

It's an Edward III Quarter noble (20d) minted in 1361. (a chip where the A should be in EDWARD)

Darn that one's better than mine! This is the best i could manage, it's the only James II half guinea i ever saw for sale, and i bought it...

(i haven't seen another since, only 2 more dates to get and i've got a full date set!)

I think my James was on drugs, his eye is definately not right! image

I wish i could get better pics of mine but with a scanner it's not easy, it's not quite as bad as it looks grade wise, it's a little higher, and the colour is off in that scan.

I find that the only way I can get a real gold colour for a gold coin is with daylight ... you ought to see some of the attempts under bulbs...

Some guys here do it ... I hate 'em

If you are going to take pictures of gold, I have found the best results are with a 100w CLEAR glass bulb.

I can't really say I have a favorite--too many to choose from! But of the ones I actually own, and have already uploaded a picture of (seeing as I'm at work...), this is one is a favorite because it is the first major buy for me from board member. It's a not so great scan... but a really nice coin. I'm a bit embarrassed to say I had it entombed in an ANACS slab, mostly out of curiosity about the slabbing process.

Biggest format in gold of Pistrucci's St George

    trozau (troy ounce gold)
  • Although no where as nice a coin as those above, this is the only slabbed gold I own.
Edited to add, I bought this from a forum member a few years ago.

1902 matte proof sovereign. One of the better coins in my 1902 proof set.

1913 Goetz Drei (Three) Mark Pattern, vergold. Not listed in Schaaf. I picked up the set of 2/3/5 Mark pieces (RRRR) but haven't had time to do a decent image. You'll have to enjoy this one for a while.

Well, it was an NGC PF64 1893 half-sovereign.

    image

But that's going off in the mail today to a new home. It belongs to another Darksider, now. *snif*

I'm rather fond of some of the ones on my Holey Gold Hat.

Especially the 1789 half-guinea (left side of the picture, beneath the Feuchtwanger cent from my Holey Coin Vest) and the 1834 quarter-eagle (at right, next to the Cartwheel penny).
