Is that from India, ajaan? I'm having trouble reading it.

I didn't even know that there were Edward VIII coins.

I actually lied. My favorite is my GB 1958 Proof 1/2d but I don't have a picture of it handy.

When are you going to take that new digital camera out of the box?

I only have two copper coins in my collection, both very low grade, one very damaged, and impossible to scan.

The only reason why i kept them is because of sentimental value, the damaged 1806 halfpenny was my great uncle's and was given to me by my grandfather about 5 or 6 years ago.

The 1807 penny is undamaged but in lower grade; only fair, but i kept it because it is the last of my first coins, the other i had to sell off recently to aid my ever growing sixpence and hammered coin addiction. I suppose it is now my first coin, the only reason why i kept it, is because it would only fetch a pound or two at most and it wasn't worth selling.

I doubt i'll sell these two, i doubt i could if i even wanted to!

When it is old technology. Then I'll figure out how to use it.

I have a 1922 US Dollar like that, my grandmother gave it to me when I was a child and i guess it is the coin I have owned the longest. Very little numismatic value, but huge sentimental value!

Copper coins usually do not appeal to me. But every now and then I run across one that has something that does appeal to me - like this one image

My favorite non-dug copper (OK, so it's gilt copper):

Another relatively common Japanese coin, but the dragon is too cool. I got this one from Coinlieutenant. My picture of the reverse is even more out of focus, so I won't inflict you with it.

  • 1739 George II half penny. Favorite for several reasons: Found it Feb 13 in the one spot of ground I could find that wasn't frozen! It came out of the ground looking almost like what you see...there was none of the typical green corrosion & dirt. Never expected something that old could be dug up in such good shape....is the copper in these relatively pure? The find was completely unexpected....was in a very swampy area where I'd been finding 1950s Wheat Cents and modern knickknacks. It's the oldest coin I own. It was found in my hometown (founded in 1725 in Massachusetts), and I sure do wonder about the circumstances of it being lost.

Glad to see you over here, WWIT. You've got some great detector finds!

My halfpenny's just a year off from yours:

My "dug" detector finds have far more sentimental value to me than the "bought" coins in my collection, though they usually aren't as pretty or as valuable monetarily.

  • Thanks LM,
I tend to prefer this forum, though I don't have too much Darkside.

The US forum is mostly uninteresting to me....Don't care about slabs, cracking coins, upgrading, submissions, results, wowie look at this toning, grade obsession, etc.
On this forum, I enjoying seeing the beautiful coins that I'd never see otherwise. Smart folks with good answers too. Darksiders seem to be collectors that care strongly about coins for their own sake and beauty, and secondarily, that have a modest interest in all that other jibber jabber.

Actually I think they are Bronze but 80 - 95% copper is close enough for government work.
